Today I attempted to get a lot of paperwork shifted out of the way and preparing to send of my P3. I called this morning and booked my Medical for next Wednesday at 2.30.

On my ACPO it says 'No Live Trace' - I called the number on the paperwork and they informed me of dates, offense and reprimand/caution outcome. My fiance said I should apply via the Freedom of Information Act and get official documents to take to the interview with me.

(Offenses were 2 occasions of 'Damage to property to the value of less than five thousand pounds')

The gentleman I originally got the information of told me that they are minor offenses and a while ago, that if I just give the Embassy the correct dates and the official 'offense name' that I will be ok with just that.

As I said my fiance wants paperwork for every eventuality, I printed off the application for the data today and it states on it 'Not to be used in conjunction with Immigration to the United States"

Shall I go with what the Officer told me, or apply anyway?

Secondly, I suffered depression for quite some time. I am no longer medicated. I believe myself to be of sound mind and body, nothing wrong with me. I called my doctors to arrange an appointment to discuss getting a letter stating that I am fine and not on any medication. The receptionist informed me that they "Don't get involved with Immigration in an way"....! How would I go about getting a letter to present if needed? Is it really necessary to have one? Is it important for the Medical, or the interview or only for AoS?

Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated

-Sarah

Unless you have that gentleman's name, job title, and phone number, plus a statement in writing, then I'd get the paperwork instead. Better to have it than not have it. You can always get the paperwork, not turn it in, and have it with you in case of an interview.

As I said my fiance wants paperwork for every eventuality, I printed off the application for the data today and it states on it 'Not to be used in conjunction with Immigration to the United States"

If you need it at some point down the road, it's a lot easier to get it now. It can also come up if you or your fiancee wants to do certain work for the government or defense industries.

If you were sick and you're now better, and you're not currently in treatment, I don't think you need any paperwork. In the U.S., most of the questions are around whether or not you were hospitalized for your depression. If you're still taking medication to stay functional, then it's a medical issue and you have to declare it. If you're okay and don't need continued treatment, I'd dance carefully around questions like "...mental disorder..." Tell the examining doctor the circumstances, and stress that you're fine now and no longer in need of treatment.

If an IO asks you a direct question, you have to answer it honestly. But you don't have to volunteer too much information.

Care,

Bill

No Live Trace means there is an historical charge. I don't know how in-depth the search that USCIS initiates is, but in the interests of NOT getting an RFE for more information it is probably better to spend the time getting the documents in advance.

I had the same issue with depression. When you answer the medical form truthfully that you have had a diagnosis of depression, the medical examiner will ask about it. They will also check your arms and trunk for any self-harm. The next statement made was "I'll need to write to your GP for confirmation". My depression was YEARS earlier than my medical appointment (and based around work stress and bereavement), so believe me, it's relevant to your medical appointment. If you want more information on the medical, there's a huge thread (or two) about the Knightsbridge practice that handles it. It's under the UK regional forum and gives great detail about what is involved.

Never talk to a receptionist about what you need from a doctor. Make an appointment and discuss it with your doctor directly. They are going to be involved in writing a letter one way or the other, so it speeds up the process if they can write it in advance. If not, at least they will know the request is coming and how important it is to your visa. You won't need it before your medical. If possible, ask that your doctor also gives you a copy of the letter AND, if your med practice is willing, see if they will reproduce your medical notes for you to bring with you to the US. This is incredibly helpful for a new doctor. :) Mine were willing to do it, but needed a week's notice and charged me for the photocopy paper and the time of the receptionist to copy the non-computerised documents like blood tests/letters from consultants etc.

The depression isn't an issue that will stop your visa. At worst, it'll only slow down the medical examination case file from going to the Embassy until the doctor has confirmation from your GP. If your GP is on his/her toes, that can be turned around in a couple of days.

Not sure how efficient London is at the moment (mine was 3 years ago now), but it used to be that you received the interview letter than rang Knightsbridge docs to schedule the medical ahead of the interview.

Good luck with your visa application. May it be relatively painless and speedy! :)

Thank you for your replies and time :)

I have my medical notes sat at the doctors office now awaiting payment and collection. I'll be seeing my doctor on Wednesday morning too.

I think I will probably go ahead and apply for the police records just as soon as I have the cash for it, so I can present them if needed.

Hi sarah,

with regard to your depression. I am currently medicated for depression and anxiety and have been for a number of years, all of which was disclosed at my medical examination and on my questionnaire.

Before attending my medical, I called and asked my Doctor to write a "Statement of Fact" about my diagnosis and current condition etc. It cost around £30 and was accept by the Doctor at my medical in Knightsbridge.

It is very important for the medical. The Doctor at my medical did tell me "i will need a letter faxed from your doctor about your depression and anxiety" but I already had it ready to give her.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Now the embassy needs to see your medical exam results before they schedule you an interview.

Good luck!
