I am filing on a K1 Visa. The mom's name was misstyped by one letter

Teresita is correct

Tetesita is incorrect.

What do we do ? She has checked and a lawyer says it is a very long process, maybe a year to get it changed.

Has anybody ever had similar situation ?

have u filed your k1 yet?

Well, ur lawyer is wrong and u don't need one. U have the same case as my sister and I have a friend who works at NSO. According to him the error such as misspelling of names, middle names, last names, incorrect inputs of birthdates, etc are just clerical errors. U can file those type of cases urself, all u need to do is file a petition for correction at the Local Civil Registry office in the Municipality where ur birth certificate registered. There is a fee of P2000+ and other expenses. U also need supporting documents such as baptismal certificate, marriage contract of ur parents, birth certificate of ur siblings, if there's any, school records or employment records if u are already an employee etc together w/ the petition....The process will take at least 2 to 3 months. So If u just filed ur k1, u still have enough time to get it correct...:)

For more info, contact ur local registry regarding this matter....

Good luck. Hope this will help..
