My wife is from Surigao City, the northern part of Mindanao.

I never encountered any problems. Actually, I have met lots of nice poeple there. I know there are lots of bombings in Cotaboto.

I don't think i would want to go too far south, but i always felt safe in Surigao.

Wife is from Bukidnon...I spent several months there. No more or less dangerous than any place else IMO. I'd say 75% of Mindanao is as safe as anywhere in the Philippines. This thread seems odd to me, BTW...just saying.

My fiancee lives as far south in Mindanao as you can get in General Santos City, been there many times, lived there for 3 months once. No problem encountered while there, although I will not travel west of there. Me and my other eventually plan to live in Davao as my retirement years grow near. I am already trying to set up some passive income streams over the next few years.

Now this gave me a good laugh. I am from Cagayan de Oro, Northern Part of Mindanao and I could say that it's safe here. My husband loves our place and every time he comes to visit and I go to Manila to meet him at NAIA he would always say that he can't wait to get to my hometown. He feels safer in my hometown than staying in Manila. There's a lot of crazy people everywhere you just have to watch your back.

Hello ! I'm from Mindanao (southern part), but, my Fiance loves to stay here. He's been here twice and in fact coming pretty soon again. He wants to live here, but, it will take time yet as he is still young. Probably, when he retires, we plan to go back here. We never know, God knows ! :)

Too much time on my hands, I got bored giving love advice on a different forum, I strolled into the say anything thread here and some girls were saying how they missed their island and it just reminded me

that I did avoid girls from Mindanao. I Think Cagayan de Oro hit the news just about the time I started looking and that was an attention getter. Prior to that I had heard there are a lot of rebels there and

to top it off pirates in speed boats running around the coast.

Anyway when you are looking on the website you can see in the girls profiles where they live, along with a lot of other information. Without doing a lot of intensive research to find out exactly which areas of Mindanao would be safe I eliminated those girls from consideration.

I also eliminated girls that claimed to be divorced and girls that had young kids.

As it turned out Judy lives in the Manila area but her dad lives on Negros, I went with her to visit her dad in Cadiz and if he happened to live on Mindanao I would have gone there even if it was a hot spot so to speak.

I thought others might like to post their opinions on this, so I ran it up the flag pole

Seemed like a strange thread to me too :) Sounds more like shopping...

Well I am getting a little confused, One guy that's been to Surigao at the Northern most part of the Island felt safe there but doesnt want to go to far south.

the guy thats been to General Santos at the southern etreme feels safe there but won't go west.

Mrs CDO comes from the city with the 2009 massacre named after it and is vouching for it's safety.

:help:

OK my conclusion is............... Stay out of the Southwest city of Cotaboto
