Hello,

I would like better to understand the process and required documents for stepchild's visa. My wife has 5 years daughter from previous mariage. We got married in January 2011 and I have submitted I-130s for both. Both I-130 were recently approved by USCIS. At this point I don't have clear understanding the visa processing for the child. Will two cases be combined into one OR it will be two separate cases? And the same documents will be required for the child as for the mom? What type of visa will be issued to the child? CR-2?

Appreciate any help! Thank you!

Hi,

It will always be two separate cases.

This is what you need to do;

File everything for them in the same envelope. The DS-230 (Immigration Visa Application) and the I-864 (Affidavit of Support) are the two forms that will be filed on their behalf.

For example - When you file the DS-230 for your wife and stepdaughter, you will include the originals with your wife's set of documents and include photocopies with your stepdaughter's sets of documents. You include a letter explaining that the originals are being submitted with your wife's case and include information about both cases.
