Can some one please help me?

US Islamabad Embassy has approve my mother in law and father in law application for tourists visa. My mother in law received her passport within five days of her approval but my father in law haven't received his passport yet. It is almost 2 weeks now. Can any one please explain me why didn't he recieve his passport yet? I called American Express many times, they only say when we will receive your passport we are going to call you. Can any one please explain me why is it taking so long?

Thanks in advance. As I am waiting for you reply as I am really worried.

Unfortunately even the older men also go thru some sort of AP even if it's a short time. I'm sure that's what the hold up is. We know someone who applied for his parents as well and because his father in laws name is Muhammad it's taking 6 months as of now...Try calling DOS and ask the case number and see if they can at least tell you he's in ap and pending?

Im sure that's all that's happening...

Thanks for the response. I am sorry, but Can you please explain me what does AP stands for and by DOS you mean Department of State. I have one more question do you think department of state can help me if they are on visitor visa like B2 visa. Can they provide me with the case number too?

Administrative Processing is simply a way for the government to take another look at the person applying for visa...they run background checks etc or check into the documentation the applicant provided but basically its another last thorough check on the individual before the visa is sent.

Yes. DOS is department of state. I would think that if they went into administrative processing no matter what kind of visa applied for you could use the case number from NVC or elsewhere to see if DOS knows.... Did you get any kind of case number for the visitor visa? Im sure there had to be some kind of process to apply for visitor visa...? Im not familiar with that since we filed cr1 for my husband.

but try whatever case number they used for the embassy interview....

Thank you for your response. They use Ds 160 application form to apply non immigrant visa. After filing the application they gave us a confirmation page with confirmation number on it. They said you have to bring this page with you. Do you think that confirmation number will tell us any thing if we call department of states

Not sure but definitely give it a try... everybody has to have some kind of case number so im sure that would be it... DOS will open on Tuesday after the holiday tomorrow. 202-663-1225. I don't think they have an automated voice recording to tell you any updates the way NVC did. Just dial that number press 1 and then 0 to speak to operator. They won't be able to tell you much except the case is pending etc...but maybe then you will at least know for sure if it's in AP.

fortunately the women don't tend to have to go thru AP the way the men do. That may be why your mother got the approval right away.... They also have the visa ready for my friends mother in law but not his father in law. And of cos we're waiting to get the visa approval for my husband..his interview was june 15th. We had to submit an extra document for household size for verification and they kept his passport and said he had to go thru mandatory ap....said there was nothing they could do about that ....every male has to go thru it.. (sometimes, tho rarely the women too)

HAng in there....im sure you will find the answers and hopefully DOS can give you insight. Did your father get any papers back after the interview? My husband got a 221g paper that requested one more document and said going thru AP

Consulate did not ask any thing from her. She did not even look at the paper that they carried. They said it was the easy interview they ever had to take. Their age was like 75 that what I thought was the reason. All she said was that you will get your passport within five days but we only got for mother in law.

I talked with the embassy and they said he in administrative process. He also said it will take 3 months to get his passport back. Do you think it will take that long or they are just exaggerating.

Thanks for your help

Sooo much depends on each individual that its hard to predict a general out come.... Did they keep his passport?

I'm sure it won't be too long now for his visa.... I have no idea what all they do... I wonder sometimes how some ppl get out of having to go thru AP or their AP is very short or why some ppl AP is so long... I don't think there is an answer we would understand... just have faith it will come soon. Inshallah...
