Usually you will read something like this on the USCIS Case Status website once the interview has been scheduled:

Testing and Interview

Your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION is now scheduled for interview. You will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview. You should receive this notice within 14 days. If you do not receive this notice within 14 days from <Date> please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance.

@boilermaker.. Where did you hear to contact them if you don't receive a letter within 14 days?

Does In-line to be scheduled and interview has been scheduled the same thing? I thought she was in-line for an interview and not the actual interview been scheduled..

I don't know since since I'm not at that stage of the process yet :)

In-line for interview is when they find the right date and time for you to undergo testing and interview. Scheduled for interview is when they finally assigned a date and time and notice in the mail has been sent. In my case, I received 2 separate email notifications about it in two consecutive days. In some cases, there's quite a wait in between in-line and scheduled for interview.

N-400 NATURALIZATION

04/07/2011 - NOA

04/07/2011 - Check cashed

My application was placed in line for an interview on 08/01.. Still waiting for my interview letter :(

You're only in line for interview, so don't expect the letter yet. You should be able to receive another email notice that would tell you that they have scheduled you for an interview appointment and the notice has been sent in the mail. Some people never had any luck with case status notification, while others like me did. So it all depends on how reliable your online notifications. GOOD LUCK!

Since all of you did EF.. in mid of August.. did any of you get a status change to inline or receive a letter for interview?

It seems the "online updating system" has a mind of its own to be honest, and most people agree with that on VJ :bonk:

My status changed to in line for an interview before I had my biometrics appt. (which was yesterday) so I wouldn't take your online status literally.

In my own case, I'm sure I'll get the yellow interview letter in the next few weeks. I know it's easier said than done, but I wouldn't recommend signing up for email/text/online updates because it just means you are constantly checking for changes every day, and then misinterpreting case status changes....

better to just wait for the status changes in the post... although I check the changes every day too! :whistle:

I've been watching other DC applicants on VJ from past months and, unfortunately, we are in the slowest district in the country. All three DC filers in the May 2011 group are still waiting for their interview letter. :blink: Based on February and March groups' timelines, I see that for DC, it takes about 3 months between biometrics and receiving the letter with your appointment date. My wife also heard similar timelines from her classmates at her citizenship preparation class. We're expecting an interview sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

My application was placed in line for an interview on 08/01.. Still waiting for my interview letter :(

I agree. USCIS processes are random at best. I did my FP almost a month ago and my online status is still saying "Initial Review"..."Fingerprint notice mailed..."

I called them a couple times to figure why I wasn't at least placed in line for interview scheduling and they tried to convince me that it is normal. I feel both angry and laughable when they say it's "standard" or "normal". As all of us who have dealt with USCIS multiple times know there is nothing "standard" with them.

I have fulfilled all the residency and all other requirements when I submitted my application (i.e. they have no excuse to wait for 90 days until I can legally be naturalized), I verified that my namecheck and fingerprint have been completed. I have no idea what's stopping them. The only thing I could guess after looking through this forum and other online forums is that either there is a backlog or too many people at USCIS are taking summer vacation during the month of August, everything is slowing down. Hope things change when September arrives.

I just got a text message/email. My status is now changed to was place in line for interview scheduling. that's a good sign but still have to wait for interview letter.

I received my fingerprints notice today. I received the text and change of status on August 23rd. Fingerprints were scheduled for 9/13. I did my early fingerprints today. I went to the Santa Ana ASC. Got there about 3 p.m. The guard just looked at the top portion of the notice and didn't even see when it was scheduled. He asked me to fill out the form, which I did.. He gave me a number. The office was not busy at all. There were about 3 people ahead of me and only two techs were taking fingerprints. After about 20 minutes, my number was called. The lady was very nice. While taking the fingerprints we talked about how scorching hot it is over in So Cal today. A lot of places hitting 105 degrees. We were done after about 10 minutes and I was out of there by 3:45 pm. Hopefully I will get the next text soon :)
