 Hey up guys

sorry been low profile ,been poorly and getting unpacked/organised.

well ahve a cc but secured with my bank and they are also doing same for car loan,

buying wifes car and then going to pay off loan in 3 months.

so thats a good start.

but have 2 amex cards just called and told them my new address in florida

of course they are canuck issued cards

the amex CSR told me to reapply for cards in USA .

seems to me that will just open up a can of worms

I pay my amex thru BOM if I pay thru my usa bank I guess they will start charging me

for currency conversion

I recall someone saying on here its easy to change AMEX

could you please tell us how again

cheers red

sweating in sunny naples and sweating on getting a decent paying job

Amex has a program called "Global Card Transfer"

global card transfer

I was told it was easy peasy to move it over. Ok, so as soon as I got to Canada I called and first I talked to India (3 diff people) and they kept telling me "call 1-800-blablah...." and I said ma'am that is the number I called to get you... so they transferred me around 4, 5 times and finally I ended up with a man who knew what their damn program even was.

I then went thru all the steps of transferring my Platinum AMEX to Canada. At the end, he said, "y'know, you shouldn't do this until you're established with a good job". So I never did transfer it (I will when I have this good job he said I'd be getting) since I pay online and have paperless statements I just left the card as-is.

I'm sure you'll have better luck with it!!

I didn't bother changing my Amex card, but I got a US MBNA card after I got a job. And I kept the Canadian one too.

All I did was send in an application for an MBNA America mastercard (applications are on the internet, you can download prob. and print it, but I got one "pre-approved" in the mail). I filled out the app, then photocopied my MBNA Canada statement and included a letter that said I have an account in good standing with MBNA Canada, I've moved to the US and wish to have a US$ account now rather than hassle with the dollar coversions.

They confirmed my account with Canada, and sent me a US$ account, with a fairly insanely high credit limit, which they've since raised!

They won't bother checking your Canadian credit rating unless you give them an extra nudge and give them your Canadian account number with their company to check. If that's in good standing, then they will probably give you a US account. If you have a job that is. Tho I do know at least one person who was given a US credit card before she even had a job, but I think that was just luck.

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Ok so my credit in Canada totally sucks. I hope they don't look for it.

Casey got a lease on a new suv for me and we are going to add my name and ssn in a month or so.

He just added me to his bank acct/credit cards. I gave my ssn. I am not sure if it will help my credit rating or not though because it is on his accounts.

Sadly enough, it does help. Unlike in Canada where it does not. Good Luck. My wife has a better credit rating than I do because of this and the fact she got a Macys store card a year before she even moved here. Macys used her Canadian ID Number and issued her the card. Then when she got her SSN she changed it at Macys and the entire history (all 1 year of it) Moved onto her credit file. So, she has a years longer history than I do on that one card. Couple that with the two cards of mine she is authorized on and voila, even though she has no job her Fico is 745 and mine is 719.

Gufawwwww!
