My fiance has one of those famous Philippine NSO unreadable birth certs. I can't believe they let these things become official records with almost nothing being legible. I've read that she should get her baptismal cert and also the a copy of the birth cert from the local registrar. That is in process, but her NSO birth cert has spelling corrections. Those corrections won't be on the local registrars copy. In addition, she found that both her mother and fathers middle names are spelled incorrectly on the corrected NSO birth cert. Should they be corrected or just left as is before filing for our K1?

This birth certificate is absolutely amazing. The typed text on it is crooked, not lined up in the correct location or anything. I really think a brain damaged monkey could have done a better job. Do the parents not get to see the birth cert? Wouldn't they notice their names are spelled wrong (I know her mom can read and write OK).

So now that I'm done complaining for now, is what I listed the proper steps to follow? If not, what are they?

I have the same problem too,my NSO birth certificate is so blurry.I was born in 1979 and the means of encoding documents before was through typewriter,no computer yet and those parents who are not educated(not all) doesn't care about discrepancy in documents.I advise you to ask you fiancé to consult a lawyer, thats what i did when i had a problem with incorrect spelling in my school record. It might be a long process.

Same here, blurry BC from NSO and was born in 1979 too! :) But when I applied for my first passport (6 years ago) DFA asked me to submit the local registrar's copy to verify the info since NSO copy is barely readable. So every time I need to submit an NSO copy of my BC, I always bring a spare/notarized copy of my BC from our local registrar so I wouldn't have to come back and get a clear one. :)

Re: wrong names/info, imyourbeloved is right. Get in-touch with a lawyer because those info are major changes and they can't be "corrected" easily. If it's just one character or a letter, I think it's easier to change. :)
