Passport and Visa Delivery

I was wandering if anyone can clarify if once the visa and passport are ready to be delivered from the embassy does the beneficary have to sign to receive it or can someone else (ie) parents? I am need to know if then I have to take a day off work .... Any information on this would be good... I cannot afford to be waiting longer than I have too thanks in advance ....

When I received my passport/visa in February 2010, someone had to be there to receive it but it did not have to be the beneficiary. It could be anyone. I think my parents may have had to show my ID though, or a letter with my name on, you know something.

They say to have id from the beneficiary like driver's license or a utility bill in his name at that address or a credit card in order for someone else to receive it. That said, I received my fiance's passport and the guy just handed it to me without asking for id, I signed, and off he went. I've read alot of others say the courier didn't bother to check id. Some who had it delivered to their workplace said it was just left at reception without id and they weren't even aware it had arrived.
