Yellow Letter, no Interview Letter

My husband and I applied at the same time for naturalization. I was sent my yellow letter on February 8, my husband was sent his 9 days later on February 17. On April 1st my husband was sent his interview letter, scheduled for May 11. I have received nothing, and my computer status is still Request for Evidence.

We called twice, and got to talk to level-2 officers. The first one put in a claim to the local office (Charleston SC), and nothing has changed. The second one told me I am in the interview list and they probably ran out of interview slots. I tried to explain that my application seems to have got out of order (my husband application is later than mine on several counts, notice date, yellow letter, last name and such). It has been now over 75 days from the yellow letter date (one of the officers told me the interview letter should be sent within 60 days).

Do you have any suggestion on what I can do? Keep calling? trying to request an infopass? I need to travel for work in mid-June, and I am losing hope that I will be able to.

Thank you all,

Anna

N-400 filed on December 17, 2010

Fingerprint done on January 12, 2011

Yellow letter sent on February 8, 2011

No status update since early January (request for evidence still appearing online)

My wife never got a yellow letter. Just the interview letter. I think each case is different. Just wait for your intv letter. It might be a month after your spouse. Filing at the same time does not mean the processing times will be the same. Would say the odds of that are quite high.

I should add to look at the Nov filing list. Several people applied after my wife in Atlanta and had interviews long before her. It doesn't seem fair but it is the norm.

The yellow letter indicates that your finger prints search has come back clear to the local processing office and that you are now put in the interview list. Interviews are scheduled "in the order they are received by USCIS" (this is in their own words in written reply to one of our enquiries). I understand that in some cases people do not receive the yellow letters, but in our case both of us did, but my file got significantly out of order.

I agree with that, but typically this means that the finger print clearance may take much longer for one case versus another, so initial receipt letter is no indication of order. However, the yellow letter is, since its date is the date when the file is added to the interview list. Once it is in that list, interviews are processed in order (of course provided applicants have no missing documents, don't reschedule the interview etc etc)

All I can say is to just be patient. Look at the November list and see all those in Atlanta who got ahead of us. We did fingerprints early in Nov and intv not until April 13. Just wait.

Hi, thank you, can you let me know how I look for the November list? I am new to this forum, and have not been able to find that feature yet. Thanks.

Citizenship thread and posters post timelines in threads for each month. Sorry to be such a downer but rarely is anyone happy with their uscis experience. gl2u

Thanks again, it is becoming a frustrating experience, since I am reading on this and other forums that once the yellow letter is received, the interview letter follows shortly after. Unfortunately most people do not post when and if they receive the yellow letter, so it is hard to track. Anyway, I'll try being patient for a little longer, but I hope there is an option somewhere to make an inquiry instead of just waiting in case got truly misplaced.

What is that yellow letter by the way? Is it for the oral and written test prior to oath?

The yellow letter (for lack of better name--it is typically printed on yellow paper) is the result of the Pre-Interview Case File Review. In that letter they write which documents to bring to your interview. In my case (probably in the majority of cases) it asked to bring a driver's license or state issued ID. The level-2 customer service officer (your inquiry is escalated to level-2 when they agree there has been a potential error delaying your application) told me that the interview letter should be mailed no later than 60 days after the date on the yellow letter.
