SSN & EAD Question

:help: My husband went to his biometric appointment back on July 28th and nothing has happened yet. How long does it "normally" take to receive the SSN and EAD after that? He's going nuts at home all alone not working and the extra income would really come in handy. Is there any other way to check your status besides that online thing, cause that never seems to change in our case.

Thanks for the help

E.

People would be able to help you better if you provided some more info, either in a timeline or in your post. What visa did he enter the US on ?, How long ago did you file for AOS ?

Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong but being granted a SSN has nothing to do with biometrics. You apply for a SSN at your local Social Security office.

Provide a bit more information and hopefully people will be able to give you some more accurate help.

Mark :)

We sent in all our forms on June 26th, we received three NOA letters all dated July 3, one for AOS, EAD and my petition. He entered through a Visitor Visa many times on his last trip we met and he overstayed the visa to stay with me.

I understand about the SSN not having anything to do with biometrics but I've noticed that many on their timeline have the SSN & EAD listed together. Do we receive a letter informing us of when to file for SSN?

Normally, the person would need a Green Card or EAD to be eligible to get a Social Security number. The SS# must be applied for at your SS office.

There are often 2 biometric appointments--one for the EAD, one for the AOS.

You can check the timelines for your District Office at uscis.gov. Watch the processing time for I-485 (the AOS application) and look for others here with the same DO as a more accurate way to see when you *might* expect an AOS interview. This could be anywhere from 3 months to three years from filing date.

To get your SSN you need to go to your local SSN office.

Take Passport.

I-94

VISA

If the I-94 is out or nearly out of date (2 weeks) you may have to wait - i'm sure some one can tell you what to do in this case.

The SSN is totally seperate from the EAD.

You must prove you are eligable or will be eligable for work to get a social.

Go to www.ssn.gov for more on social security
