Hello all,

I am currently confused on what steps I need to take next. I got a NoA2, NVC sent the Choice of agent and I returned it, paid both the AoS and IV bills.... We have the I-864 filled out and got a co-sponsor to help out. Her DS-230 is filled out, signed on first part and unsigned on the next. I've been reading on this site to see what I need to do. Am I suppose to wait for a packet? or Am I suppose to send these forms and if I am, where? Just lost on this portion of the journey and need some help. Thanks!

Once the AOS and IV bills are paid, you can mail the AOS and IV packets, respectively. Please DO NOT wait for any document or packet from NVC. This will only prolong the process. After your AOS and IV bills are paid, print the barcoded cover sheet from the NVC online payment system. On each cover sheet, it specifies the address to mail your documents to.

I highly suggest reading this guide, if you haven't already. I read it thoroughly and followed it carefully. I had zero issues.

Hope this helps you some. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks a lot! That is more to the point than other guides that seem quiet ambiguous as far as step by step details. I just have a question about the police clearance. Do i need to send them now or does she need them for the interview?

I see that you recently did one for your step-daughter. That looks faster than I thought. Were you able to get a Temp Tax Id for her because I have a step-daughter as well that I'd like to claim on my amended tax return but need a ssn.

You would need to submit an original police (NBI) clearance in the IV packet to NVC. At the interview in Manila, the CO may ask to see another original clearance. So, get at least two original police clearances...ASAP, if possible.

Yeah, the NVC process is quite fast if you are proactive. Many people advise not to wait for NVC to send you documents. Once payments clear, start sending the packets. Call NVC everyday to get the latest status on your case. I didn't get a tax ID for my stepdaughter. I'm not too familiar with that. Sorry.

It appears that my wife and I are in the same phase of the "Journey" as you. It's a long story, but we met in the US several years ago, we married, then her Visa expired and she went into removal proceddings. She was granted voluntary departure and returned to the Philippines, as ordered, last May. Since then Our I-130 has been approved and now resides with NVC. I have payed all the fees ($88 and $404) to NVC and sent in the Affidavit of Support. My wife has completed her IV form and is sending it and the supporting documents to me via a returning relative. She is waiting for her new passport to send me a copy of that as well via email or fax. I have not heard from NVC since they received the I-864. That was 8 business days ago. I have been waiting for them to tell me the next move. They have been incredibly fast and efficient compared to USCIS. Everything is emailed and bank drafted. Very nice after the slow crawl we did through USCIS and the Board of Appeals. So what I am hearing here is that I should not wait for NVC to request the IV application, but rather send it as soon as I can and call them about our case everyday. Is this the true?

Thanks, JT

Yes, this is absolutely true.

If time is not an issue, go ahead and wait. However, by checking NVC payment status daily, you can be proactive and shave days, even weeks, off of the processing times.

Please refer to the guide I mentioned in the previous post. Good luck with your journey!

I spoke with NVC today as you suggested and I am happy to report that you were absolutely correct. They told me my I-864 (Affidavit of Support) had been received and approved and that I should not wait to hear from them to submit the IV applcation. Unfortunantly, I will not have the DS-232 probably until the end of next week, as my wife is sending it, along with the "police clearance" and official birth certificate, from the Philippines by way of a returning relative, who will then have mail it to me from New York. I will then add some supporting documents that I have here and send it on to NVC once I get a copy of her passport to add to it. I will probably have to wait a bit longer (a few days) for her to send me a copy of her new passport as she hasn't received it yet. Do you think I should go ahead and send what I have as soon as I can and send the passport copy via email when I get it or wait and send it all together? We have been apart for almost a year, but every day we can speed up the process is a day that I will appreciate more.

TYhanks again for your spot-on advice and for the link,

JT

Definitely wait and send ALL required documents once. Remember to print and include the respective barcoded cover sheets (AOS and IV packets).

Good luck with your NVC process! Keep us posted.
