hmm..if you're asking if the preparation for a church wedding in US takes 6 months..based on our experience, I say No...it really depends on what kind of church wedding you want, whether a big or just a simple one..as for us, we started planning and booking for the venue even if I was still at the Philippines..we just had an intimate church wedding(only had 50 guests)..actually not a church coz we had the wedding ceremony and reception at a hotel ballroom..my in-laws were the one who decorated the altar and everything..we had the food catered by the hotel..then it's my husband's uncle who wed us(he's a Minister)..we just paid for the venue, food and all amenities..we live in California and we had our wedding in Missouri, so whenever we arrived there, everything was all set..we were really greatful to my in-laws for their help...We had a wonderful and simple wedding...you can really ask help from your husband's family..for sure they would be excited to help and looking forward on your special day..you can even start planning things out while you're still there in the Philippines...God bless!!..

 Agree!!...also you have to remember that church wedding here in US are far more expensive than in Philippines...the more simple church wedding you want to have, the more it is affordable...if you want to have a bigger wedding..you have to start planning as soon as possible..God bless..

@Joyjohn..same here..we will also just renew our vows in the Philippines..:-)

If this is a Catholic wedding, it can take long, not 6 months, probably 2-3 months since you have to attend a couple's retreat which normally is already fully booked 2 months from date of booking before you get married. Depending on the season as well. If spring and summer, it could be longer. Catholic weddings are only done in the church and not allowed anywhere else so there is a cost of ceremony location, which can be up to $1K (on top of $250-300 for the couple's retreat) if you are not a parishioner.

Also, catholic churches will not allow you to be married twice. That is the reason my fiance and I will be married at the court when I arrive in the US and do a church wedding in the Philippines since the Catholics are on my side of the family.

I had a friend who got married at the church the first time for K-1 purposes (only a handful of witnesses) then when they were ready for a full church wedding, the Catholic church did not allow them to hold a full wedding ceremony (because you cannot get married twice, like you cannot be born again or baptised twice). Instead, the ceremony was a renewal of vows, which is completely different from a wedding ceremony.)

Are you both Catholic? If yes, the ceremony will be the traditional, and you can also incorporate some Filipino tradition like having veil, candle and cord sponsors as well as ninongs and ninangs. If only one is Catholic, they will modify it to not include transfiguration, declaration of faith and so on... you have to talk to the parish priest. Catholic weddings in the US are flexible to recognize the diversity of religion in the country but also stands its grounds with respect to its own faith.

I've been through wedding plannings with Filipina friends who were married in the US in different situations so I know.

Good luck!

Get married in USA first, Don't monkey around with a "Fake" or "Simulated" wedding in PI. After you are married in USA , you can go back to PI and get married as many times as your heart desires.........

If you Fiance says it takes 6 months for preperation for Church Wedding in USA, then that is what it takes.

Why question him?

why not get married in the US first then after you get your GC go back to PI and get married there it makes not sense (for me) getting married in the PI and you're on fiancee visa you should've get married first then file for CR1 instead of K1 just saying

We had a catholic wedding here in the US. Yes, ideally most churches require you to reserve 6 months ahead. You will need to do the canonical interview, pre-cana seminar and also there is paperwork involved with the diocese of the church you pick. it doesn't mean that you can't get married in less time, but it does take a while to get all those requirements. The best thing to do is contact the diocese to see if there is a priest and a church available for the date you want and to start the process as soon as possible.

i have a blog post about my whole wedding planning you can see it here

PS. get an updated baptismal and confirmation certificate dated within 6 months and it should say for marriage purposes

Oh and by the way its not expensive to have a church wedding, its the reception that costs a lot. The church only charged us $75 for use of electricity and we paid about $200 for the pianist and singer. Of course its up to you if you want to decorate with flowers etc, those can get expensive. The reception on the other hand is another story....
