Australians without vaccination records

Hey guys,

So I've read other Australian and NZ posts about missing vaccination records and everyone has jus got a immunity test done. Well heres my story on what my crazy doctor did.

Alright well I went to the doctor told him the reason I wanted to be checked out and he thought it was pretty cool, Gave him the list of vaccinations that are required for the K1 visa and he gave me a test for just a few first.

So a week later I went to go get my results back thinking everything was going to be fine... I thought wrong!

I had nothing! not even chicken pox! I was really suprised and upset aboutt his! I remember getting some things through H.S but seriously.. not even chicken pox.

So I bit my tongue because I was about to swear and ask the doctor if I can get ALL the vaccinations all over again.

So he gave me a few scripts to pick up

$90 for Hep A and Hep B

$80 for diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis and poliomyelitis (OUCH!)

FREE! for measles, mumps and rubella

Gotta go back for boosters and chicken pox in 6 weeks, I'm also getting chicken pox for free too! yay me!

So anyone else that has sore arm/s?

Wow! That's a double ouch... to your arm and pockets!

Had you never been immunised for tdap? if so, my booster was only $35 or something.

At least you are having it all sorted now I'm pretty sure having them done with the panel physician will cost even more - not to mention how much they would cost having them done at a later date once you reach the US.

Good luck friend, bring your mum with you - helped me to be extra brave on the day. haha

Tdap is the combined jab for Tetanus, diptheria and pertussis

Oh oh oh! I the the combination for 4 instead of the 3. I think it was called boostiv ipv or something like that.

hahah lol! my arm was sore for a couple of days after that one - doc said it's the tetanus that does it!

Boostrix was the name of that one when they gave it to me, and I paid about the same as what you did Oh and curvebell sure was right about the difference in costs... Dr Millar's office that did my medical today wanted to charge me $70 for the chicken pox vaccine... luckily i got it done for free at my GP

Also, they told me today that as of 1st April, the consulate here is requiring all visa applicants to get a flu shot too. Cost me $25 today at dr millar's office, not sure if the gp can do it cheaper/free????? I was all ready there so just went "yeah, do it now, I'll pay"

I have never had a flu shot and have never really had the flu - so I don't see the point.

What happens if I refuse? Surely they cannot force me to have one? haha

You probably have had the Chicken Pox injection as a child, but the immunity wore off, which is why it came up negative on your test. It's actually more common than you think. Many parents will get vaccinated again when their young children get their shots done, for this very reason.

I did the same thing for my vaccinations - I gave my doctor the list of vaccinations I needed to have, she checked my immunity to them all and then gave me the shots I was missing. When I went into my visa medical, I showed them baby book that had my childhood immunizations and the printout from the doctors of what immunities I had. The doctor accepted them both with no problems.

I have never had a flu shot and have never really had the flu - so I don't see the point.

Am not sure on that if you refuse but I had never had one either but when I did AOS and transcribed the vaccination over to I-693 the doc wanted me to have a flu shot then he would complete the form. I went to Walgreens and had it for free as it was coming into winter here. I had all my vaccinations when I was a youngster and my local doc did the serology test and I was clear and I had had a tetanus done back in 2006 before I went to Thailand which I had forgtotten about .

Flu shots are usually free at your local GP, I had one just before I left for the states in Oct. I felt it did nothing for me, I got sick anyway...

I've read that it is only required for flu season. When I had my medical the doctor ticked 'not required/not in season'... if my interview is in flu season which I don't even think it is then what's the go???

Okay, I feel really sorry for everyone that got all these shots before actually checking the DETAILED shot requirements. The list that you find on these sites are all those shots that MAY be required. However, the shot requirement depends on your age and gender. These are the directions given to all panel physicians! On page 16 you will find a chart listing all the requirements according to age and gender.

The shots I had were BASIC requirements for Australians, Regardless if its for a visa or not you should of had these particular vaccinations. I would rather get the shots that are so called "MAY" required over and done with just incase who ever does your medical gives them to you at the full price. In Australia were luckly enough to have Medicare which takes care of most of these vaccination costs. Hense the reason I got MMR for free, even chicken pox which is actually $120, not including the boosters.

Id rather be safe than sorry, not sure about anyone else.
