Does Filipino Teacher require approval to immigrate to US

My wife is resigning from her teaching position in the Philippines to come to the USA to live with me. Does she require approval from the government after she resigns from her teaching position in order to leave the Philippines to immigrate to the USA?

Is there an additional tax charged to Filipinos who immigrate to another country at the airport beyond the 750 peso international flight tax?

Can someone help on these subjects?

I heard something about that in another post. Does she have a contract to teach at a particular institution? She will have to attend a CFO Seminar and get her sticker before she will be allowed to board.

There is a travel tax on top of the airport tax based on the class of passage.

My fiancee is also a teacher in the Philippines - I have no idea what you are referring to when you mention "approval from the government after she resigns". If you are referring to some specific articles, would you please post those here. My fiancee just asked me, do I want her to renew her contract for the upcoming school year. Since it is likely that she will be here before the end of the year (if VSC would just hurry up), I told her she probably shouldn't. PLEASE clue me in on what you know, because it seems I am missing something.

I don't know your fiancee's financial situation, but mine basicaly has no ssvings (as PH government often delayed and shortchanged her salary). So in the months after her contract ends, and until she comes here, I will be the one providing her with living expenses. We just didnt think she should be tied up in any contracts when it was time to leave.

Hello!!...I was a teacher before I left Philippines last year..I've been teaching in a state college. As of my part, since I was just under contract and had to renew every 6 months, I had the option not to sign the contract for the next coming school semester. I didn't sign the contract and I was out of the school but ofcourse I had to submit all the term requirements and class records before I ended my contract with the school. I also asked the school HR for a an employment record that dates from from 1st until the last contract(somewhat like a Dismissal Record, not sure of what they really call it). I prepared them before hand, coz I've read on some forums that government workers needs to have that one. Whenever, I attended my CFO seminar and got my DFA sticker, I put there on "previous work- Contractual Teacher" and they didn't ask anything from me..As for you KJama199, if she asked you if she still needs to sign the contract for the next school semester, then maybe she is also a contractual teacher and she doesn't need dismissal records from the government. Sometimes it also depends on what school one is teaching, if one teaches on a Private School/College/Universities they would just issue the teachers with employment record/end of contract or dismissal record, if ever they are not Full-time regular teacher(mostly they are contractual teachers). Others who are employed in public schools under government services, doesn't sign contract once they started teaching, if ever they take a leave or want to stop teaching, they need to file a resignation letter addressed to the District School Office, should complete all the class records, files and duties before they leave. Regular teachers in the public school have alot of obligations to get dones before they can file for resignation(or else they will be on AWOL if they don't notify the office). There are also some part-time or substitute teachers in public school(who signs contract) and they are not usually heavily burdened because their work ends when their contract expires. I really don't know what's the name of the record given by the government to allow their workers leave the country. I hope I was able to help. God bless on each of your journey!!

An Administrative worker for her school told my wife that my wife required government approval to leave the country because she is a school teacher. Has anyone ever heard of such nonsense? I told my wife that after she resigns from her teaching position from the elementary school in the city she lives in that she will no longer will be considered a government employee and that it should not apply to her if such a requirement actually exist.

It seems that no one is familiar with this requirement. Her cousin which was also a school teacher imigrated to Canada about 5 years ago did not have to obtain anything before leaving. Her cousin took a leave of absense instead of resigning.

My wife would have taken a leave of absense but found out that she should have applied for a leave of absense a month ago therefore she is resigning because there is no processing period, just a few signatures for a resignation.

I told her that it is unlikely that we will return to the Philippines to live because I have a very difficult time dealing with the heat and humidity there so resigning should never be an issue. Besides if we do decide to live in the Philippines after I retire, I want her to have her US Citizenship first before we retire so she can come and go from either country without problems. That requires her to live in the USA for 3 years.

My wife still lives with her parents and she gives all of her money to the family. She has a sister in the USA that sends money to the family every month to help out. I told her not to expect that from me when she comes to live here. I have my own children that I would help first. I told her that if she wants to work and send say $100 per month back home, that is okay with me.

Keep in mind that most people in the Philippines own their land and home with no mortgages. I would be glad to help my wifes family, (parents and sister that still lives there) more if I had no mortgage also.

Although we sound wealthy to them, they seem to fail to realize how expensive it is here in the USA to live. Especially around Boston.

And finally because Massachusetts is a socialist state, I have to support those who somehow think they are entitled to suck money from hard working people.

Worked in state university before. Teachers are normally required to finish the whole school year (June - March). The best time to fly out or resign from work should be during vacation time (April - May, or before the end of school year so the admin wont give her any school load at all. I resigned from my teaching job before a school year started. The next job required me to fly in and out of the philippines. I had no problem at all.

If she is resigning in the middle of school year, she would need a permit to get out of the country.

April 4th is the end of the school year for her. She will resign effective April 8th.

Make sure that she has all release paper signed up from school. It was a whole day activity with me, going from one office to another. It sucks but that's the way to do it. And bring those release paper during her CFO seminar and airport just in case someone questioned her.

And yes, there is an additional tax fee in the airport, i paid 1600 pesos before. But as a balikbayan, i only had to pay 200 pesos last year.

Forgot to mention that this release paper is nothing to worry about. Most of people resigning always have papers to sign.

Any other surprises?

Many, but that would be telling.

Seriously, though, make sure that when you book her ticket if you are not accompanying her, that you look it over for restrictions and boarding instructions. Other than that, you are good to go.

okay, from what it looks like, she has to pay 1,620 pesos for travel tax and another 750 pesos for airport fee.

Any other surprises?

if you used your credit card to buy her ticket, she might be asked for a photocopy of your credit card. You could email her front and back copies but tell her not to show the back side. Photocopy size should be 1:1 with your credit card.
