Hi all,

We're doing DCF through the US Embassy in Bern Switzerland and I was wondering if there's any Swiss - US couples here that have done this already or are in the process...?

When we made the apointment to file I-130, I was asked my mail address and they sent me an information package (including DS2001 (Applicant Readiness), DS230, I-864 and info on documents we will need to bring). I have all required documents together... Only thing we're not done completing yet is the I-864 but we'll have that ready by then too. Can we file I-130 and hand in the Applicant Readiness Form on the same day - our first visit to Embassy?

Thanks for your help!

If you have everything ready for the first part of the visa application (sounds like you do), then take it in with you (be SURE to keep a copy for yourself! Plus your originals, plus a copy to submit) and ask. We did this, and it saved us a considerable amount of time. It was not our Consulate's usual practice, but the woman could see that we knew what we were doing and she was happy to accomodate us.

All you can do is ask! :)

The I-864 will go in with you on interview day anyway.

With interview date you mean the first appointment? When my husband (fiance now ;)) goes in to file I-130? right? Sorry, might be a stupid question, but I need to make sure as he wont be in Switzerland then...

hi there, sorry about the confusion.

As I understand you, there will be 2 appointments:

1- to submit the I-130

1- for the visa interview

The I-864 is required at the visa interview. Your USC spouse is not required to attend this interview, but must supply you with the Affidavit of Support before your interview.

If you have the other documents ready, to start the visa application (DS-230, DS-2001, whatever they use in Bern), you can ask if you can submit them on that day (after your I-130 is submitted) and see if they will start a provisional file for you.

You can look 3 places for past experiences:

-Old VJ Forum: http://www.visajourney.com/forums2/index.p...Search&mode=adv

(search the DCF Forum---extend your search to 'any date'---return search as 'posts'

-the alt.visa.us.marriage-based group: http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdispla...daysprune=&f=35

(use the 'search this forum' option and search Bern)

(browse to DCF/I-130 Abroad and Switzerland)
