When my fiancee renewed her passport using Rush service at DFA there were signs indicating it won't be ready until around April 15. Something about not having paper from the central bank. We would like to pay the visa fee now so we can schedule the interview. She is in possession of her existing passport (expires April and holes punched in it) and has a copy of it (no holes punched). If the DFA's estimated date is correct and we must have the renewed one then this could greatly delay things.

Is the number different on the renewed passports?

Has anyone ever used their previous passport or copy of it to pay the fee/schedule interview?

New passport means new passport number. The old passport has punched holes meaning that passport is no longer valid.

Appreciate the replies. It is a passport renewal so I was thinking they would just extend the expiration on the new passport they produce. Much like a driver's license here in the US.

I sent the US Visa Service Desk an email about this and here was their reply:

Thank you for contacting US Visa service desk.

Please be advised to wait for the renewed passport before paying the machine readable

application fee to avoid any delay in scheduling an appointment. Once you have received the renewed passport, bring a photocopy of her passport bio-page at the time of payment.

Do let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Well if the DFA estimate is correct then that will delay it by just over a month. So that makes me wonder what the delay would be if I used the old one. I am hoping to have her here to attend my brother's upcoming wedding.

Trying to think of some alternatives if there are any. My fiancee was asking me about my passport, but I am thinking that won't work. What if she used her old passport number and then when she gets the new one we call in and have them udpate it? I am thinking the old passport is just not valid for travel, but can be used for things like ID.

Has anyone else here had this similar situation?

My brain is still working on this. :) I remembered there are 2 other payments methods. I look on this page and it appears a passport # is not needed for the other 2 methods.

So I am thinking she can open a BPI account or use an existing one if it is part of BancNet.
