Canadian Birth Certificate

I sent away for a "long" birth certificate. I received a letter back, with a "short" birth certificate from the Director of Vital Statistics stating by law, adoption records are sealed, and the long birth certificate cannot be issued. This letter, (two originals) has a raised seal on it. I telephoned this man, and he stated that his letter accompanying the short birth certificate (which doesn't have the name of the birth parents btw), is enough. I told him what it as for, and he assured me it would be no problem. Still, I am hoping someone also may have been in this situation before and can tell me what their experience was. I'm going to be interviewed at the Vancouver Consulate in Canada. Is this something that the Consulate themselves could answer? Maybe I'm being a worry-wart.

If you have the short form and the letter from the provincial officials stating that the long form is not available for you, then that is okay... you made the effort to get the information. I would also bring your adoption decree that states the names of your adoptive parents as well.

I'm adopted, too. had no problem getting my long-form BC from Manitoba. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I was adopted at birth and my (adoptive) parents registered my birth with vital statistics after the adoption was finalized.

I was also adopted, and had no problems getting my long form from the Registrar General of Ontario. The CAS registered my birth under my adoptive parents' names. Hoping you can find the info you need from the consulate
