Residents of a quiet neighbourhood in Rosemont-La Petite Patrie said they were stunned by a double shooting Saturday night that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

The men had just finished dinner at a restaurant on Belanger St. about 7:30 p.m. when they were ambushed while walking south on 30th Ave.

The men, who were 24 and 37, were each hit by at least one bullet, Montreal police said yesterday.

The 24-year-old man died a few hours later in hospital. The other man is in critical condition, police said yesterday.

...

The slaying was the third homicide on Montreal Island this year. At this point last year, there had been one homicide.
