police check- name/fingerprint?

Hi All,

My husband is currently residing in Victoria, Australia on a student visa. All the paper work is moving along well for him to come to the United States. However, we have to soon mail out the DS 230 form which requires police clearance. He got a police clearance thru name check only. Does he have to have the fingerprint check also? If so I think the processing time is about a month..I was wondering if anyone has any information on this. Can the document he has now be send out with the DS 230? Can we later submit the fingerpint check if required... Please reply to this post with any helpful suggestions or advice. Thank You.

As far as I know your application is the same as any other and he will have to get police report which includes fingerprinting at local police station or where he lived most of his life. It does take about 4 weeks to get it returned.
