Hello!

I am a conditional permanent resident and my national passport is expired. I'm going to obtain a travelling document from my embacy in Washington to go visit my family. While i'm there i will renew my passport.

For that 'though i need to apostille all of my us issued documents.

I sent my marriage certificate to the Illinois secretary of state and i got a denial letter saying that my Marriage LICENCE needs to be certified by the county clerk first. Well, my LICENCE is certified (signed and with an official seal) it's my CERTIFICATE that i need apostilled.

Isn't a marriage certificate issued by a county clerk considered a certified and official document?

Has anyone got ny knowledge on the matter?

Thank you!

Little update for whomever wants to laugh:

I got a hold of someone from the county clerk's office and they figured they sent me my marriage certificate back in 2008 without certifying it. They didn't put the special seal on it and the clerk didn't sign it.

What's funny it's that it only took 2 years to discover that, and we used this for the immigration purposes and none from USCIS cought it :bonk: .

It's all taken care of now
