Just received P3 from Montreal! Between all the VJ embassy info, the information on the embassy website, and the information in the actual packet, there appear to be some conflicts and gaps, so I just have a few questions.

  1. The VJ embassy info for Montreal says we need to send back "DS-230, DS-160 online form, Checklist." However, the consulate website says we need to send back "DS-156 (2 copies), DS-156K (one copy), DS-160 (one copy) and confirmation receipt, DS-230, and checklist." Are the DS-156 and DS-156K required to send back? Does this mean the VJ info is out of date?
  2. The checklist says not to schedule medical exam until after the visa interview is scheduled and P4 is received; other people on here advocate scheduling the medical before the visa interview. Which is right?
  3. It seems that I (the petitioner/USC) am required to provide evidence of domicile. What is acceptable for this? Utility bills? Property tax statements?
  4. With the affidavit of support, I am providing a letter from my employer and my pay stubs. Is my income tax return still required?
  5. I have also listed my house as an asset - am I required to show any documentation for this, and if so, what document(s) should I use?

yeah, I just received the "new version" of P3, and I'm so lost with it.... the VJ guides/wikis are now obsolete for MTL, since they are doing all this new business. It's so confusing. I started a thread about it a few threads above this one, if you want to check it out. "scheduling interview online" or something like that....

Let me know if you figure anything out!!

Anyone have any experience with any of these questions? I know the P3 has changed somewhat recently, but I can't believe CBM and I are the very first ones to have to try and figure it out.

I can help you with a couple things :)

The embassy info is really out of date. It looks like it hasn't been updated since Montreal started the new interview scheduling system, which has really changed a lot of things. I would follow the instructions you have, and ignore the embassy page. Even back under the old system, you were only required to send back the DS-230, DS-160 confirmation and checklist, but many people sent all the forms back and that was fine as well.

The evidence of domicile does not pertain to you if you filled from the US and are still living in the US. It is a standard checklist that they send out to everyone- seems silly I know. If you want to bring a utility bill or two for peace of mind I don't think that would be a bad idea, but I certainly wouldn't prepare anymore than that. The chances of you needing it are slim to none.

For the I-134, it will likely depend on what the CO wants to see. A lot of people are specifically asked for the most recent years tax return, and others are not. I would have it with me to be safe. It's much easier to get it now and be prepared, then having to send it to Montreal after the interview thus delaying visa issuance for several weeks or even months. Personally, I provided it at my interview, which was back in April of 2009. You will also need it for AOS later, so even if you don't need it at the K-1 interview it will be useful later.

I'm not sure if the medical scheduling requirements are different now because of the new interview system, so I don't want to give you any misinformation on that. I also don't know anything about assets, unfortunately.

I wish we weren't the first ones getting this new version of P3! I was all set and was ready to go on my way with all the info I have learned from VJ since May..... then it all changes, haha. We'll be trailblazers for the rest of the upcoming P3ers :)

I sent mine via DHL yesterday. I couldn't be bothered to figure out how to do it for free, since the woman at the counter had no idea and didn't seem interested in figuring it out, either, so I just paid the $20, and was happy enough to get it out of my hands. Have you sent yours yet? Or rather, your fiancee is Canadian, correct?

Thanks for the info, Huggles!

For the medical, I'm not sure how long it is from P3 to interview now, but I know when I did mine last year I waited till I got my interview date and then went. If its shorter now than it was then (I sent my P3 back in July last year and had my interview in Nov.) then it shouldn't matter, but the one reason I waited till closer to the interview was so that my medical would still be valid for my AOS (the medicals are only good for a year).

1. Only send what the forms asked. They used to ask for DS 156/K and then asked for both... they are weeding it out. I was only asked for the DS160 like you and was confused too. Other members who got P3 at the same time were asked for both. I only sent back what they asked for... "just do what they say" haha. VJ info is out of date.

2. Book the medical when you want, but most of the time it takes over a month to get an appointment and incase they need more tests it's better to book 1-2 months from now. I booked mine a week after my P3 for 3 weeks out (the EARLIEST I could get) then got my P4 before my medical and the interview was the date of my medical pick up. You pick up the results 2 days after your tests.

3. Yes. But also make sure to include a copy of your bc, pp and anything else proving you were born in the US and staying in the US.

4. Yes. Tax return from the lat 3 years. I believe there is a mention on the form if you don't have it, but if you want things approve quick and smoothly then give them the info. Send copies of everything you state.

5. No.
