Hello fellow VJers,

I am going to be staying with my fiance for the next three months and I am having my mail forwarded to my mother while I'm gone. Should I actually change my mailing address with USCIS in order to avoid any delays in receiving notices (then change it back once I'm home), or just keep it as is? I don't want to waste any time if a notice is sent, but I don't want to confuse USCIS either. Thanks for any advice!

Sorry, are you the petitioner or the beneficiary?

If the petitioner, you should consider that they may not forward any mail from the USCIS. This could be a big problem if they send you an RFE. Or, if your NOA2 (something they like to see with AOS, but not strictly necessary as some have found) . Likewise with what the other poster said, it can be a huge headache to deal with an address change. Couldn't someone just check your mail for you? Maybe a neighbor could pull it out of the box, and your mother could stop by to go through it every couple weeks instead...? Actually, that sounds almost as bad as changing your address with USCIS, doesn't it. :D

If the beneficiary, I wouldn't worry about it. You can track your case, and you don't need to be at home (or even physically receive) the "packet 3" letter.
