Vaccinations needed

Hi,

I am just going over the vaccinations needed as I prepare for my upcoming Medical in Toronto. As per the website, it says just a verbal declaration of chicken pox is required...do I just need to tell them at what age I got them and how severe they were?

Also, looking at this site, it says the flu shot is needed after Nov 1, 2003 but for people aged 50 and older. Does anyone know if this is accurate? I have never received a flu shot and to be honest, I am not in favour of them at all. If I need to get one I will, but would prefer not to if it is not necessary.

In Vancouver you needed to give the ... I know I had Chicken Pox disease, do I still need a blood test?

No. If you actually had the disease, verbal confirmation of the EXACT YEAR YYYY is acceptable.

We cannot accept approximations such as "under 12" or "when I was young". Please provide the EXACT YEAR YYYY.

If you aren't sure just get your GP to do a blood test for anti-bodies. It takes about a week to get it back.

You don't need the flu shot unless your in the age group requiring it according to Dr. Seiden's office.

Hey,

I was asked if I had chicken pox as a child I said yes and that was the end of that. I didnt need to give any dates or timelines. I just said as a child. This was at dr seidens in toronto. As for the flu shot I think its for children and seniors, My son needs one but he can get it once we get to the states as we are poeing in a week and there are no flu clinics around here till after that.

You will be fine dont worry too much! :)

Same here, the guy just asked real fast:

"Did you have chicken pox as a child?" I said "yes", and that was the end of it.

Didn't ask for any year, proof or anything, just a simple yes.

You have to get the flu shot if your INTERVIEW is in "flu season"

Yeah that was my concern. However, reading the website I posted above, that ony seems to be the case for people 50 and older. I think I'm going to call the office to make sure.

The website I looked at, http://panelphysicians.com/Pages/Age6.htm , said we needed to get a flu shot since my husband interview will (hopefully) be in January. We actually just went in this past Friday at the doctor here in the States to get all of his vaccinations updated.

One of the great things that my doctor suggested was getting a blood titers test. The just drew his blood and tested for antibodies to things such as chickenpox, hepatitis and MMR and so on. They also took his shot record from Canada and put what he had into their system.

He ended up getting the blood test, a flu shot and a tetanus shot.
