Hello all,

My question has to do with the tax documentation. I will have a co-sponsor to help me with my financial parts, but my question is if my parents file their taxes jointly, is that a problem? I know they want to see the taxes of the co-sponsor for the past 3 years, but my parents have them done jointly so it would have both their incomes combined. Would that be ok to use or would it cause a problem for the CO?

Hi Kerby. If you do need a co-sponsor any and all information is helpful. BE CAREFUL. In my case I also needed a co-sponsor because they said my income was not enough then when we got my fiances sisters-sister-in-law which had almost 1 million in assets they didnt believe her and call her at 12:30 AM California time and grilled her like she was doing something illegal. REMEMBER to give them "all" documents you have. I.E. All phone call made, all internet messages, pictures, airline tickets to see your fiance. DO NOT give them a reason to deny it. Good luck

Even if they file their taxes jointly, the W-2 will help clear up how much of that income belongs to the parent who will act as your co-sponsor. Also it is broken down on the 1040. So no, it will not be a problem. Pay stubs and a letter from employer will also clear that up nicely (am assuming your co-sponsor is employed).
