Hi all,

I am new at this forum. I have been reading some of the posts/answers and it is great! Thanks for your advice in advance.

This is the situation: My application was approved and the IO said that I passed the test on August 26th. I was told that it would take up to two months to get the letter telling me where the oath was going to take place, etc. So I am hoping to get the letter by October 30th. The problem is that I would like to leave the country on vacation to see my relatives at the beginning of December (before Christmas) - I am afraid that at the beginning of December I won't have been done with all the paperwork (passport, etc). Is it advisable to request an infopass apointment and talk to someone at the USCIS in Minneapolis and explain the situation to see if they can please give me a date right away? I called the 1800 number and they told me that I should wait up to 120 days before requesting an infopass. I don't know if this information is just general info they give to everyone or if for sure they won't send me the letter right away... What do you guys think? any advice is really appreciated. Thanks!!

If its an emergency, and you have proof that it is an emergency. Then maybe they would expedite your request /give you a sooner oath if it was possible. But since you just want to go for a visit I think you will end up waiting and being told the same thing at the infopass that you were told by the phone number.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

You can reschedule your oath once you get the notice. If you do get it by the time you travel, then you can see if you have to reschedule it or not. Go ahead and plan your trip and if you do get the oath, completed and need to travel very shortly after that, then you can expedite your passport request.

I would just wait for things to happen on their own instead of trying to talk to someone that will give you a generic answer.

The question is, can you have someone reliable check your mail assuming you didn't get the oath letter by the time you travel? If yes, then they should just communicate that info to you and you can either reschedule (if while you are away) or you can return and attend your ceremony.

Oh, welcome to VJ!

Minneapolis is actually called the St. Paul office, but is not located in St. Paul, but in Bloomington, MN.

On your interview letter states on the bottom they have up to 120 days to process your oath letter or else you can take them to court. But not too many people want to sue an agency that has full control over their lives.

St. Paul has been notorious slow for oath ceremonies, as long as nine months. We were in the same boat as you are in now, but two years ago, its frustrating being in the twilight zone again. But had two reasons for calling my senator, one was my wife's oath letter was promised within two weeks, practically two months went by and nothing. But the most important reason was, she wanted to vote in the oncoming November election. For that reason, we received an e-mail for a special oath ceremony to be held at the St. Paul office within three days. I thought they were going to be nasty about that, but they were extremely nice and accommodating to us. Maybe because our Senator Feingold is on the USCIS budgeting committee.

But I suggest you contact your senator, actually, I did on the behalf of my wife, she is shy in this respect, can do a google search, who is your senator, and call them, don't write. They don't give a damn if you want to travel, just say you would like to vote. And see what happens, worked for us. Would do that now.
