Matbe they actually want change.

Change from someone doing their job to some moron who doesn't even know what is expected of her, let alone have concrete proposals on how to achieve anything she thinks she might like to change? Well, that's change, but not for the better and one would hope that most people who are considering change actually want to replace what they have with something that performs better, not something that doesn't perform at all.

Look at it this way. The dems are not taking it in the azz in the polls because the country suddenly became conservative. The reps are not losing to the tea party because of a sudden shift to the right. It is an anti-incumbant mentality that is doing it. Both sides have become tone-deaf to the will of the people. What is happening is a reaction to that. The reason the dems will lose so badly this fall is because they simply have more incumbants to kick out. From the abortion that the health care reform became to the trillions of dollars wasted in the name of "stimulus" the people no longer feel that congress is listening to them.

It's the economy...plain and simple.

That's weak. Yes the economy sucks and people are unhappy, but come on, the voters deserve more respect from the people who seek their vote than such platitudes. You are not a politician, so there is no need for you to make proposals and concrete plans, but those who seek office need to make more of an effort. Does it not disturb you even a tiny little bit that not one political ad in CA currently gives us a hint at what any candidate might actually do when the gain office, really?

You are delusional if you buy into the GOP civil war talking points.

The Republican Party is imploding. The leadership is completely devoid of any concrete ideas on how to fix the economy and it's not just me saying that. Former Rep. Chuck Hagel, for example, has essentially said the same thing. Listen to the ideas of these Tea Party candidates who have beaten the incumbents and you'll hear that their policy ideas are very similar to the incumbents. The irony is that these new candidates are getting the votes because of the ineffectiveness to govern by the incumbents, but their ideals and ideas will push government ineffectiveness even further.

It's because we're too busy playing defense! When the opponent is a nutjob, you can't allow the electorate to lose sight of the stakes. I'd much rather know that you WON'T support creationist nonsense than know you like cops.

I don't buy that either. Most of the electorate is reasonably literate and can actually take in more information than sound bite nonsense, particularly if well presented. These TV ads cost millions, simply saying 'vote for me, my opponent is a big fat hairy liar' is treating the electorate like dummies - and worse, the electorate tune out after a while, they get fed up and become apathetic - that's is the biggest threat to the US, apathy, not bloody muslims.

Some people may remember but I did ask how Obama proposed to change how things were done in Washington beyond saying that he would bring a sea change by virtue of his being there and I was poo pooed. Well, do you think things would have been different if he had been required to give concrete proposals on how he intended to make change, what structures he would put in place to ensure that it did and permanently? Or do you still feel that vague promises have some meaning beyond developing feel good election fever?

While your point is valid, I think many are using history as a guide.

If they are winning without showing their hand... why lay out those specifics which only give ones opponent ammunition in the general?

MC I must say your position is a unique one... most other liberals are concerned the T-Party wave coming in will have the power to do TOO MUCH not.... not too little.

Yet you give Democrats a free pass on economics, they know best because they are democrats, right?

Just out of curiosity, are you a Brown fan?

Forgive my limited understanding of politics.

All that vegan Hare Krishna food has atrophied your brain. You need some ground chuck, stat!

I disagree. Muslims per se aren't a threat but bloody Muslims might be. One must ask reasonable questions here. Who's blood is it? How did it get to be on the body of the aforementioned Muslim? Is this a prelude or warning of some kind?

Rock on Danno, that's a convincing argument, don't bother to tell the electorate what you plan to do in case your opponent uses that against you.

The tea party candidates will be a shambolic mess if they get elected - they'll squabble amongst themselves as much as with the GOP and Dems. Nothing to fear from them at all except the greater disappointment from the public at large which will either lead to more apathy or more anarchy.

I look at policy ideas and judge them on their own merit. The only economic policy ideas you will hear from the Republican leadership is tax cuts. That's it. I'm not exaggerating.
