Hello everyone,

I am finally ready to submit my citizenship application and I needed your help.

The part for trips taken abroad, in some instructions is says it could not have been more than 18 months in 5 years, and some places it says it could not have been more than 6 months.

I received my GC in March 2006, a little over 3 years ago. Married to a US citizen. Since then we have taken 15 trips abroad, each trip's maximum days out of the country was 31 days and the minimum was 1. Total days out of the country is 205 during these years.

Is that ok or am I reading something wrong in the instructions? We used to go to Canada alot to see my parents and when my father was sick and passed on I was there for one month, and then one month again to help my mom.

Also, I am providing copies of my 1040s to show we filed taxes jointly. The 1040 had a W2 summary statement attached to it as well. Do I need to send copies of the actual W2s we got in the mail? I can't find them and I don't want to mess up my application.

Please help! I want to send my application out tonight.

thanks so much

There are two rules you need to meet, and this is where your confusion is arising.

1. Continuous residence: you must have not traveled outside the US for trips 6 months or longer.

2. Physical presence: you must have spent at least 18 months out of the past 36 months in the US (based on the 3 year rule).

You do satisfy both rules so you should be all set to apply.

As for the tax returns evidence, you can go ahead and submit them the way they are. If they need different ones, they will notify you by mail and instruct you to bring with you on the day of your interview the requested material.

It looks like you are all set....

I was actually going to do that today. I should stop reading some of these posts though, where people are stuck in the FBI "namecheck" blackhole .... scary stuff. I just want it to be over with! Gonna start studying for civics test!

Sometimes when I am thinking about all this and the process that I need to go through for N-400, I forget about the civics exam :bonk: then I get reminded..... without it, we can't pass
