Passport In old name

I have my tempory Green Card in my married name and my passport is in my previous name. I have travelled with my marriage certificate and things went ok. I think it would go smoother if I had my passport stamped in my married name. I understand that you get a stamp from the consulate. Can anyone give me some more info on this and how I go about it. Would it be better to get my whole passport changed? Mine is a british one. Can anyone point me to the appropriate website?

I changed my UK passport to my married name... it was cheaper to just get a new passport than to just change the name as my passport only had 18 months left on it...

It only took 2 weeks to get both my old passport and my new one back from Washington....
