Do you believe you're getting "facts" from an article that ends with:

Pray that the Lord will heal the physical, emotional and spiritual wounds of these two girls. Pray that their families will be a source of compassion and strength. Pray that those who perpetrated these violent attacks will repent and turn to the Lord for forgiveness. Pray that attacks on young Christian girls in Pakistan will stop. To post a prayer of solidarity for these two girls, please visit our Persecuted Church Prayer Wall.

It's from The Voice of the Martyrs, an anti-Muslim/Islam group that purposely slants news to emphasize bad acts by Muslims, and to make all Muslims look like crazed criminals running around attacking Christians. This is not journalism, nor is it about facts. It's about a particular, prejudiced point of view that is very prolific online.

JAS can easily post articles about bad Muslims because the internet is so full of them. In the western press, Muslims doing bad things are identified by their families' religion, even if they are ignorant of it and non-practicing. Non-Muslims, on the other hand, are no identified by religion, and their crimes are just normal goings on for otherwise normal people. If the press identified all alleged criminals and victims by their birth religion, Christians would also appear to be warped by their faith, too.

As I say, there is nothing about this article that inspires any kind of understanding. It's basically "look at what these people have done in the name of their evil God".

We accept that life is harsh, short and cheap in deprived parts of the world. Articles like this irritate me because all they are is an exercise in emotionalism.

With all the huge news stories going on in the region of Pakistan one does wonder what the point of posting this was - does JAS have Pakistani relatives or something?

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Is there a point that you actually have here Lisa, or are you just looking for an excuse to heckle me.

I have explained my position in very clear terms, you don't have to agree with it. The question I asked is consistent with what I wrote and perfectly legitimate. Again, you don't have to like it.

The point is that you wont acknowledge the fact that things you dont like or disagree with are usually labeled with racist or bigot. You constantly try to pigeon hole people quite often this way. Why? who knows.

Bollocks. look at WBC, look at abortion bombers, anti-gay protesters, if you can't say that the majority of them are somehow Christian, and are bashed in the news, then you're selectively blind. People bash Christianity every day. As a Christian, I can either be offended by that, or realize that the bad ones who make the papers don't speak for me or my faith. So they're nothing but crazy.

And whether the article ends with a prayer...zomG! call Oprah! ...that doesn't make the attack fiction.

When you stop heckling others, I'll do the same. Until then, if you're going to ask ridiculous and intrusive questions that really are none of your business, if you're going to censor the flow of factual information in order to self-police people's opinion making process, then I'll continue calling you out on this nonsense. If your heckling is legitimate, then by your own definition, mine is as well.

You are not the defender of the Muslim faith. Bad things happen and we discuss them here all the time. If someone is going to actually form a racist opinion based on a few articles on a flippin mb, do you REALLY think your protests are going to change anything? Of course not. But instead of using logic and realizing that, you have to bang this drum and derail this thread. Sh!t happens, D...it will everyday. None of us need a self appointed teacher or lecturer to shield us from the bad side of any religion. And unless I've missed something, there's been no hate speech anywhere, so basically, suck it up and get over it.

If someone is pushing a bigoted agenda of prejudice, they need to be confronted.

I don't think I asked anything that was "ridiculous and intrusive". I asked why this article should be taken as an example of "the bad side of Islam", what kind of context is this? The problem with stories like this, is that they add nothing to anyone's understanding of the issue. All it does is reinforce preconceived ideas that people already hold. How is that intrusive?

Yes Marc, I know you and a few others have cooked up this idea that black is white and how outrageous it is that bigoted opinions are called out as bigoted - but even when it's clearly explained to you, you don't address the arguments as much as talk around them. I don't know why you'd do that, but I have a few ideas.

What was sixes point about starting a thread on bowel movements? We all need to be qualified in order to post something? Or even respond to a post?

Its quite simple, dont participate in threads you dont like!

I think we can assume that we're all posting in the thread because we choose to.

'What does this do to further your understanding of Islam?'

come on now, that's bullsh!t.

PS - the true challenge is to find positive articles about Muslims online. It's difficult, and that's why people keep insisting that they haven't heard of Muslims renouncing terrorism, despite the fact that it's happened repeatedly.

Its more about rape than muslims. to me anyway. What anybody else sees is their prob.

So do it then. I have no interest in posting either negative or positive stories, but I will read both.

We can post all kinds of stories like this, suck the air through our teeth and say "I have no words", "that's horrible" etc. etc. But at the end of the day these things are platitudes. They do nothing to inform us about the bad things in the world or why they happen. All they do is reinforce positions that people already hold.

madhouse, isn't that just how it goes here? it's not like we're an activist forum. everything we say here is just platitudes, just empty rhetoric.

as for why so many threads, well that is how it happens here too. whenever there's a topic we beat it to death on OT. thats just how we roll.

if theres a response to this, i will respond later. going out for lunch.

They may be Christian, but their faith isn't indicted by their bad acts, as Islam is for the bad acts of even the most nominal Muslim. The attack may be real, but only one point of view is offered. That makes the reporting of it prejudicial against Muslims, which is why JAS posted it. If you can't see that, you miss a lot about his purpose for posting negative articles about Muslims.
