Lets hope it doesn't get that way.

We can hope in one hand and sh!t in the other.... I guarantee you I know (and so do you) which hand is going to fill up first.

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

Well, then you're in for a real treat because it's about to get real ugly, real fast.

Any of my experiences or opinions are always irrelevant on VJ. I'm used to it by now.

Absolutely... but that's not their primary job and we - as in, we the people - should be conscious of what the military's job is and base their deployments on that. Not our compassion and empathy for other nations.

I think it's wonderful that the US military can help out in other places. Should they? That's up for debate. Pakistani floods? Sure. Have at it. Building infrastructure in Iraq.... not so much.

Um, actually, yes they should've. The military's job does not include responding to disasters or emergencies here in the US. (Read up on posse comitatus if you have any questions or don't believe my "opinion")

I think what you're referring to is the activation of the National Guard to "aid" in releiving New Orleans of their privately owned weapons, passing out food to those who were "stranded" at the Super Dome, and providing medical care to those who weren't "fortunate" enough to leave in the several days of being warned to do so prior to the natural disaster. Yeah, we probably need more of that around the world too.

Tsunamis, earthquakes, floods, fires, etc., I'm all for the US swooping in, handing out food, setting up shelters, rescuing people, etc.

But, doing the above because of civil unrest.... not so much.

I think that was the "English" spelling.

In other words you agree with my original comment that humanitarian projects are well within the remit of what US troops should be engaged in around the globe as necessary. Great, I'm glad we went around the houses to get back where we started :hehe:

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Or Skyline!

That would give the FSM a whole new meaning.

MC- the US military responds to its Commander in Chief most of the time, regardless of mission objective, which of course varies from time to time and place to place.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
