I've been doing some research and this might be off a little. But using the sun and VY Canis Majoris as the 2 stars; here is how the earth sizes up (in terms of dollars for easy understanding):

$1 = the earth

$1,000,000 = the sun

$9,261,000,000,000,000 = VY Canis Majoris

The last number is whatever comes after trillions (zillions?)....So that is how large the star is compared to planet earth. Most people can comprehend the incredible difference between $1 and $1,000,000. But I don't care who you are, it is not possible to get a true understanding of how minuscule $1 is to $9.261 zillion dollars. Remember that in this scale $1 = 1 earth so we are talking about 1 million earths and 9.261 zillion earths here! That is a lot of earths just to discuss to stars in our galaxy!!!
