Unable to fill out forms for next stage on the computer?

We're still anxiously awaiting our NO1 but in the mean time I figured I'd get the next stage of forms out of the way. For some reason when I open and try to write in the forms I downloaded from the Dublin Consulate site it keeps giving me this error message:

Cannot Save Form Information

Please Note: You cannot save a completed copy of this form on your computer.

If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it.

Is this just a fluke, or do they really not want us saving these forms once we've filled them in?

No that's true. Any of the forms you get off the DOS you can NOT save. There are ways around it, all I did was print it out after I filled in it and then scanned it back in so I could send it via email to my fiance where he could then print it out. Hope that helps.

I opened all of them as images with MAC Preview or Windows Paint/Preview and put text annotations in the necessary fields (edit: and of course save them as images/PDFA). Works quite well

I can actually save the information I put into those forms when using Adobe Acrobat Standard (version 7.0) but not when using Adobe Reader 9.3. I don't know if it's because it's an older version or if it's because its a full version of Acrobat, but most likely the latter.

I would suggest installing a free pdf printer (there are several good ones available free online) so you can avoid the whole step of printing out and scanning back in.

By PDF printer do you mean a program that converts PDF's into image files? I have one of these programs but it's not letting me convert it because it says it is password protected =(

Probably so, the files are secured by the DOS...at least thats what it says when I open them at the top

If you can print a document to a regular old paper printer than you can create a pdf out of it. A pdf printer is something that will convert any file into a pdf by using a printer driver. It installs it's own printer driver to do this so that when you are in the document and you go to print it, instead of selecting your regular paper printer, there will be an option to print to the pdf printer and voila! a pdf is made! I find it amazingly useful!

Ah well this really sucks then, especially since we are now living in the middle of nowhere and the nearest printer is probably all the way out in Navan! I wonder why I was able to fill in all the previous forms without any troubles.

Okay I think that's going to work. I used the program you gave me to turn it into a regular PDF and then used my existing converter program to convert the file into an image file. So I think what I'm going to do is fill out the form in Acrobat and then process it through those two programs to save it. Thanks for your help!
