HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO GET MY EAD CARD

Currently on a H1-B Visa, but I recently got a job offer from a different employer. My present position with my employer is finished August 30th. Since my wife, who is a US citizen, and I just got married, we filed for my AOS. It was just mailed, next day mail, yesterday, 6/16/2010. I got a job offer as an Athletic Director at a high school 6/15/2010. I didn't expect the interview or job offer so soon (the job offer came literally 2 days after I interviewed and a day before I was to mail my AOS package).

Now, I don't know what I am going to tell the employer. School starts in the last week of August, which would be approximately 5 weeks since I mailed my package, which was mailed to the Chicago location. I don't think I will receive my EAD card in that time. Although, I did receive my EAD card for my OPT aftering graduating from Grad School in only 5 weeks. But my research with people doing the AOS shows that people are receiving the EAD card at 8-9 weeks from mailing package at best (I actually read someone's timeline which says they got it in 5 weeks from mailing.

My questions are:

Should I approach my new employer about transferring my H1-B or will that just scare them off?

Can I do anything related to the position while I wait for my EAD card, if they don't pay me?

Will my EAD card arrive quicker than most because I'm Canadian and Canada is so close to the US?

Will my EAD card arrive quicker since I already had a EAD card from my OPT?

Will my EAD card arrive quicker since I'm already in the system/database because I already went through the process of getting a F1 Visa twice as an undergrad and a graduate student that went to schools in the United States, went through the process for the OPT, went through the process for an H1-B visa?

How can I tell my employers of whats going on so they will wait for me to get my EAD card?

Is there anything I can do to expedite this process?

Since my EAD card for my OPT only took 5 weeks, should I expect the same time frame for this EAD card?

Thanks for the responses. As you can tell, I am really anxious because this job offer is a dream job and pays almost double what I was making at my recent job.

Since you were already permitted to work, you might be able to request an expedite request for your EAD.

JULY 19: Received by USCIS (DAY 3)

JULY 23: Received Emails and Text Meassages (DAY 7)

JULY 26: Received I-797 in mail (DAY 10)

JULY 26: I-485 Touched (DAY 10)

JULY 30: Asked Local Congressman Rep for help in expediting EAD Card (I just lost a pretty good job offer) (DAY 14)

AUG 3: I-130 Touched (DAY 18)

AUG 4: I-765 Touched (DAY 19)

AUG 9: Biometrics letter received (DAY 24)

AUG 10: Early Walk-in Biometrics done (DAY 25)

AUG 10: Congressman Rep informs me that my EAD Card is being processed (DAY 25)

AUG 11: EAD Card ordered for production (DAY 26)

AUG 11: I-485 Touched (DAY 26)

Got the EAD Card today in only 33 days from the day I mailed the AOS package. Must've broken some kind of EAD Card record, lol. Now time to find a job
