Tipping Etiquette

Also...Ive always been amazed at the nerve of some cultures in some countrys where they automatically add a magical 10% to the bill for service......plates and silverware??

The dumb Americans usually include a 15% tip on top of that.

We had a 100+ euro dinner in Venice on our honeymoon....and the waiters started to pack up around us ...my other half almost did leave a tip until I reminded him of the sevice charge, I wouldnt have left a tip at all given the chance, if service is good I often leave a tip on top of service charges....There was a table of American girls next to us who were equally pissed off and we left them still lingering over dessert choices

I admit to being quite shocked when I learnt how poorly paid waiting staff are paid in the US tho'.

My in laws are in town and are having a really hard time with the concept. The other day they bought a coke at the 7-11....and tipped the cashier...I'm like...ooooh we aren't THAT bad with tipping.

They just don't get when TO tip and when NOT to tip. They've gotten the hang of it I hope cause they are off on their own on Sat....off to south florida, canada and alaska
