I never, EVER said I think lowly of this country. I love America; I'm American, my family are American, I had an American upbringing. I want to love living here more than I do. I left this country when I was basically still a child and my formative adult experiences were in another country. I am having a hard time reintegrating into American culture. I don't even have the fig leaf of being the non-USC to hide this discomfort behind. I want to be happy in a society that I feel comfortable in. For many reasons, most of them having nothing to do with politics, I don't feel that here. I am trying though.

All I did was offer to help her pack. What good can come from someone who doesnt want to be in this country and thinks very little of this great country?

In this thread you did - but those of us with memories remember that you've been more candid on the subject in others.

You already play the fool well enough without any pretense.

Anytime someone tells someone they disagree with to get out of the country, it seems clear that they stand for none of the values they supposedly hold dear.

It's interesting to me how readily some of these people describe others as Unamerican, unpatriotic or some variation thereof; yet they cannot see how they should be more concerned about attitudes closer to home.

Have I called you Unamerican or unpatriotic? Same old rhetoric from you lefties.

You called me unpatriotic right here by saying I did not value this country. Oh boy, nothing could be further from the truth. It is possible to love a country, and to be in it, but not of it.

Too true but we can strike back

Me and the other immigrants and enlightened yanquis and 50 million Hispanics and all the blacks and orientals and shirt lif gays etc can coalesce around driving the backwoodsmen back to the backwoods where they can shoot pretty deer and clean their weapons in their survivalist shacks with the ammo and WW2 magazines stored under the floor. Not that I stereotype you understand.

I said that in another post and this lady replied that I do stereotype. She thought irony was like coppery or aluminumy or something

jeez

Answer the question Pike. What good comes from someone that does not want to live here and thinks very little of this country?

You already said you were considering on moving back so can you quit it with this I love America nonsense. I didnt say unpatriotic or value, those are your words. I called a spade a spade, you dont like this country and I see very little good coming from your presence here.

That's pretty talk; keep doing it. It's turning me on.

It is possible to love this country and not feel you belong here. If you are incapable of this sort of sophisticated thought, I apologise. I want to feel more comfortable here, and I am trying. I will probably not end up moving back to the UK but I am glad it is an option for me. Yes, I will probably end up staying and learning to fit in again. And I will probably feel more at ease one day. But right now, I am feeling wobbly for many, many more reasons than "oh, America sucks." And these are reasons that do not belong in this thread.

No progress can come from people who like their own country the way it is.

It's best to stay and change it.

Isn't that what the founding fathers did ?

There are many things I don't like about the US. I will become a citizen in December and then I will work to change it - democratically

Bad news for those who like it the way it is...

as Abe Lincoln used to say

What good comes from having someone demand that people who don't subscribe to their conception of patriotism leave the country?

You're simply lying Pike. Basically what I said was that b1tch1ng 24/7 is not good for this country and I wish people that dont really give a dam would just leave. Quit it with the lefties rhetoric. If you got issues with america(as I do) thats fine. To act like you give a dam when you never have anything good to say is silly. I respect people more who just come out and say it instead pissing and moaning all the time and then when challenged act like they love this country.

It was a fundamentally stupid question, therefore I ignored it and asked my own question to highlight it.

But come on then Simpson - lets have the "Why" on the bolded.

Perhaps you can explain how telling people you disagree with that they are unpatriotic and should leave, is "good for the country".
