Agreed - but as long as guns are freely available in other states, handgun bans

in certain areas are just silly feel-good attempts to claim to "do something" to

address gun violence while only restricting the rights of law-abiding citizens

I have read and accepted that an English person has far more in common culturally with a French person or a German person or a Russian person than they do with an American.

I can believe that because I even feel more akin to the 25% Hispanics in my town than I do to Americans - even though the American's family might have come from England 100 years ago.

So it doesn't surprise me that there are vast cultural differences between say Japanese Americans and African Americans.

The question is - is it just culture ? Sidney Poitier found it easy to portray the perfect English gentleman - his genes didn't preclude him from that. That would suggest that a Saudi could pass for. and act like an American.

It follows therefore that if an African American child from the worst areas of Milwaukee could be raised in England and go to Eton, he would end up behaving like Sidney Poitier.

It further follows, that ghettos are not the inevitable product of certain races - but simply the horrible environment in which the generations are being brought up.

Now we can't turn a hamster into a rabbit by changing it's upbringing, but we can change any human.

These Haitian orphan babies will pop up on CNN as newsreaders in 25 years time looking as slick as can be and living in posh houses

Unfortuntaely for your expected response, I am not trying to sell you anything but discussing reality. I don't just run on personal opinions that people act a certain way, simply because of their financial status alone. If this was the case, countries with similar socioeconomic status would have similar crime rates.

I can never figure why we English are such drunken vandalising litter louts.

Look at Germany and Holland and how they ended up in 1945. Yet they are clean and enterprising and relatively crime free with tiny jail populations/teenage preganacies etc etc.

I was amazed to walk through a subway tunnel in Munich and see a jeweler's shop down there - and it had no bars in the windows and it was 2 am !

We sorta have the reverse experiment going on, with the popularity of rap and hip hop. All these white kids are talking and acting ghetto. Let's see what happens to them in later life.
