Hi everyone,

I am Canadian and my fiance and I filed our K-1 with USCIS in April. We recently recieved a request for evidence stating that they wanted proof of our meeting within the last two years. In our "intent to marry" statements, we stated that we got engaged on Dec 24 2007, so they took that as the last date of meeting, despite the boarding passes from our Christmas visit and various dated pictures we sent (although the dates my camera inserts are tiny and don't look the same as when other cameras do it so they could have been missed).

For this RFE, are they just looking for proof of one meeting, or should we send proof of many meetings? We have seen each other frequently in the past two years (usually once every 1-2 months) but most of them would be hard to prove because there's not much of a paper trail: we drive and don't stay in hotels.

This past Christmas, however, I flew down and stayed with him from December 23 - Jan 4. So I have my email receipt from Air Canada with the proof of payment and flight info, boarding passes (I already sent them copies) and pictures of us together during the trip and his bank statement showing that he paid tolls on the way to the airport and paid for parking (both when picking me up and when he dropped me off again). I'm trying to find any receipts from dinner or something while I was there. Would that be enough proof? Should I write a cover letter to explain the proof I'm submitting? Would it be better to submit proof for a few meetings throughout the past couple years?

Also, will it cause problems for us that we have been engaged for almost 3 years? It took us quite a bit of time to decide on which country we should move to (Canada or USA) and then more time to figure out which route to go (fiance or spousal) and then more time to find a lawyer to help us with it. Will this be something that raises suspicions or hinders our process in any way?

Thank you so much for your help!

All the evidence you can provide for the December get-together, with a brief explanatory letter, is sufficient. Until you are interviewed, no one will really care about the length and details of your engagement.
