A Russian friend of mine recently submitted his tourist visa application the the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. They told him to expect an interview date around the first week in July. Just the other day he was told, I believe by the Pony Express, that he won't get an interview until the second half of August! He also said the Embassy was rather rude. This automatically cancels all his travel plans to visit the US.

Are any other's experiencing a similar problem with the US Embassy in Moscow? Is there anything he can do or someone he should contact about this problem?

He also looked into travel agencies and tour groups and is finding they are also having similar issues in getting visas. Is this usual with the US Embassy to have such delays?

Any advice is appreciated!

Just the way it is, and a LOT of people that apply for tourist visas get denied. Hope he can show great ties to Russia. A good invitation letter sometimes helps. My step-daughter was denied a J-1 visa a few years ago, but last year she got a tourist visa which is good for 2 years. After getting the first tourist visa others are much easier and do not require an interview. I am not sure but a 2 month wait for a visa interview seems a little long but not unreasonable for Moscow.
