Best Rates on International Calls to Colombia?

I'm just curious as to which services you all use for your international calls to Colombia. I currently use Google Voice for my calls to Colombia and they charge $.04/min to land lines and $.07/min to cell phones.

Skype used to have an unlimited plan to land lines but I cant seem to find it anymore.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I think skype has a reasonable monthly subscription plan to land lines or cell phones in Colombia. http://buy.skype.com/paymonthly/?country=US&country=CO

Edit: I should have looked a bit more before posting. I think that the Skype deal is a bit worse than Google's, because it is not really unlimited.

I have a "Plan Linea Directa" which gives you a landline number in on of the major cities in Colombia (Medellin in my case) and she can call as a regular local call within Medellin but the call is transfered to my cellphone here in the US

Sorry forgot to add.... it is with Orbitel. My current plan charges me $34.95 per month it gives me $25 for me to use for outgoing phone calls and unlimited incoming calls/minutes

We currently use Vonage which has unlimited calls to any landline in Colombia. We used to buy ETB phone cards which has very good rates as well.

Im on metropcs with the added unlimited international voice (landlines) and text feature. to call to cel, i use Orbitel, $10 for about 160min to comcel.

I also use Vonage with a backup of an Orbitel Virtual PIN. The Orbitel PIN also works great for calls back to the USA when I'm visiting Colombia.

If you plan on calling a landline, Vonage is the way to go with unlimited calls!

Vonage is free to Colombia landlines (as always), but has now also reduced the rates to Colombian cellular phones from .19 to .05 cents a minute... (which is less than ETB and Orbitel calling cards, roughly .067 cents)

Anyone have an idea of what is the best/cheapest way to get a virtual number in Colombia (bogota)?

I don't know that it can be done. Some countries (and I think Colombia is one of them) require you to have a physical presence there to get a number.

For when my fiancee wants to call me, she usually just calls and hangs up, signaling me to call her back. Or, if she needs to use a different phone and I won't know the number, she uses the Orbitel Virtual PIN that I set up which renews itself automatically when it runs low. We share that account, so she can call me when she wants from phones other than her cell and it comes in handy for me when there are network issues with Vonage (I'm sure you've had them, too) or when I'm in Colombia visiting and need to call the USA. Best part with the Virtual PIN is you only have to remember one PIN forever...

Seems much cheaper overall than Vonage, but also seems like the equipment is more dependent on it's software using your computer than just plugging into your net connection on it's own like I believe Vonage does.

I think the issue with MagicJack is that the computer has to be on all the time as it is a USB device whereas Vonage has its own device which is connected to the Internet at all times. Unless the person on the receiving end leaves the computer running 24/7, they'd have to know a call was coming to receive it..

I have a co-worker who uses magic jack to make calls to his family in Egypt.

We choose Orbitel because most of the people in my new wife's family dont have internet access. With Orbitel she get's a local land line number in Colombia that gets forwarded to her cell phone here in the USA. I've it forwarded to her Google Voice account and have placed the Google Voice number in the AT&T "A List" so that all of those calls are free :-).

As mentioned before it also comes with $25.00 in credit to make outbound calls and I believe its $.02 per min to land lines depending on which city.

The down side is that it does drop the calls at random times.
