Colombian Tourist Visa for USC

Hello all,

I've been lucky enough to have the time to travel to Colombia twice during the last three months to spend some much needed time with my finacée (GREAT for us!) and have returned to the U.S. each time after 12 days and after 17 days. I have one more 17-day trip booked starting shortly but I'm beginning to wonder if there is a limit on the number of tourist visas that Colombia will issue a U.S. citizen? I haven't been able to find anything to that effect and in no way has the total number of days come close to exceeding any time limits that I've seen (180 days/year max), it's just that I have several visa/entry/exit stamps over a relatively short period of time and need to be sure that I can be there in the future, especially when it's time for her (still TBD) embassy interview.

I was wondering if anyone here knows if there are any restrictions on the number of Colombian tourist visas that a U.S. citizen can obtain or has any experience making multiple, closely spaced trips (2-4 weeks apart) to Colombia on tourist visas? Or, am I just thinking too much in the strict terms of coming to visit the U.S.?

Thanks.

Thanks!

I didn't think so but this whole experience has been quite different for this (formerly) domestic-only traveler and I was sure that someone here had made that trip numerous times.

I just got to thinking about it after my last return to the US when the emigration agent in Bogotá seemed a bit confused by all the recent stamps and asked me under which visa stamp (date) had I entered before she put the exit stamp in my passport. I just want to be sure that I don't wear out my welcome there especially given that my fiancée can't travel here yet.

Thanks again...

Don't worry about that at all. I'm very lucky to have a LOT of banked vacation time built up and I've been down to Colombia to visit with Vanessa about a dozen times in the last year and a half. I could swear sometimes that the customs & DAS officers & the ladies at the window who clear you for exit tax exemption at Medellin airport are starting to recognize me, but so far not the slightest hassle from anyone either coming or going.

I feel the same way about the Bogotá airport. And, I don't know about the customs or DAS agents, but I definitely know the airline crew, both on the flights and at the counter/gate, recognize me now!

There was definitely no hassle, only that I'd never been asked that before. I'm sure she was just trying to find the stamp that said I was ready to leave that particular time. I just had an "I wonder...." moment.

And, congrats on receiving your NOA2!

Well, I see you filed only about 5 weeks after me, so hopefully your wait for one won't be too much longer...

I visited my fiancee 9 times in 2008, never any questions, never any hassle. It's usually the US that questions people coming into the country with suspicion. The only limitation on entry for a US citizen is the maximum number of days per visit, which I believe is 30. We got married in 2008, which cut down my travel costs quite a bit.... :star:

Yeah, I'm here now. :D

No problems with the entry. I was only thinking about it because I've heard that even with a multi-year/multi-entry tourist visa, the U.S. starts to hassle people if they feel they visit too often. And, each of my stamps has given me 60 days but I heard you can request 90 days if you go to the DAS offices but they'll want a reason for it. (How strict? No idea.) I don't know if that's changed since you used to visit often, but it was definitely no problem.

And now, I'm hoping that my next visit is for her embassy interview!
