The question about apostilled docs for the USCIS/embassy/interview has already been answerd, but just in case anyone is lurking here who is thinking about getting married in Colombia, please understand that you WILL have to have certain documented apostilled in the U.S. in order to get married in Colombia - my birth certificate and divorce decree come to mind.

By the way, this brings up a point. If you were helped by this thread, you need to give back when it's your turn. We all learned from somebody else. I learned from Peter (as well as from reading and from actually doing things). Other learned from me and Dre and some others. Now many of you are learning from Lucho and Diana, among others. Eventually you will be the experienced ones and you will need to help the new people. I won't speak for anyone else, but my reward is in seeing others who I've known since they arrived on this board get through the process and then begin to help others. And the help continues on the Club Colombia AOS thread.

Any Colombian documents that will be used here in the States for immigration purposes don't have to be apostilled. You will find a few translators down there that will tell you that you have to just to make the extra bucks, but it's not true. Get the translations without the apostilles.

Now, any US document that will be used in Colombia for whatever purpose, will HAVE to be apostilled or Colombian agencies won't accept them.

No sign of an NOA2 yet, Byron? I've noticed that April filers are now getting approved at the CSC. So it was a little bit over 120 days for them.

Hey guys another newbie here. I would like to start off by saying thanks to everyone who has posted info on this forum. It has all been very helpful and helped me construct an error free I- 129F packet. I recieved notification that my packet had been approved by USCIS and would be forwarded to the NVC. I have a few questions that hopefully someone can help me out with:

1) What need to be my next steps as far as what documentation I will need.

2) I read through the shortcut process that James put up, will this work for me?

3) Are the fees going to be the same now as when he published his guide?

4) Finally, what might be a realistic timeline from now until interview time?

I know that is quite a request but I like to be proactive with things and as slow as this stuff gets processed I want to get it right the first time. I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

Welcome to you. Read, read, read. There are multiple postings on this thread about what to do once the petition has been sent to the NVC (although, unfortunatley, the good posts are often buried between a bunch of stuff that's irrlevant). Your questions:

1) Begin steps for packet 3. If you use the short cut method, you'll have a quicker interview date. It's easy. But don't send packet 3 until you KNOW the petition has been received by the NVC AND has been sent to the embassy in Bogota by DHL.

2) James short-cut will not work for you. For the visa you seek, Peter's shortcut is what you want and this is the thread where you'll find it.

3) Fees went up at the end of July. You'll now be paying much steeper prices. The goods new is that most of the fees relating to your interview are about the same as they have been (except that the falling dollar has made them cost more). You'll notice the big bump in fees when you adjust status.

4) Check out my timeline (below) and that of others. Without looking, I think our approval came in late November, we submitted the packet 3 info in mid-December and we had a late January interview. Things start to move quickly....just depends on how fast the service center sends your petition to the NVC and how quickly they process it and send it to Bogota. Mine was very quick (like about a week in total); some others have taken longer (2 weeks or so).

Just like Buck said, the OF169 is in packet 3. Go to the packet 3 link I gave you. Click on the first bulleted link "Instructions for K-1/K-2 Visa Applicants (In Spanish)" The OF169 will be the 5th page.

I remember when I was having trouble locating that OF169 too, thanks to Diana I finally did find it.

I saw a question in the Colombian forum in Spanish that I thought maybe someone here could answer.

I cannot answer with 100% confidence by reading the package 3 & 4 instructions.

Is the carta de entradas y salidas de Colombia (Migratorio) required for children under 18 who will be applying for a visa as part of their parent's K1? It is clear that the police certificate is not required, but based on the wording in the packages, there is a small possibility that the migratorio will be required for children. I think it is unlikely, but Monica wants to be sure.

Can someone with children who has been interviewed recently provide some insight?
