We are going to the USEM on Monday to get the Police Clearance letter for the Japanese Embassy. Since we are going to be there can I just schedule her interview before I leave or do I have to do it over the phone?

Thanks

They want you to pay some how, either you or her, if you go to the embassy, they wont let you go in, if you dont have appointment, they tell you to call or do it online. you dont loose nothing in trying

Ok, I do not know about being able to make the appointment while you are at the embassy, But I do know for a fact that you can get into the embassy without having an appointment. I was in the Philippines last Oct-Nov 09. I had the NOA2, We went to the embassy for the letter from them requesting the Japan police clearance. Make sure when you are entering and the guard stops you, Show him the letter and tell him what you are there to pick it up. He will let you through and tell you what window to go too. If not ask him. Now, Once you get to the window do not ask the person if you can get what you need. Tell them that you are there to pick up the request letter. It took us about 15 minutes to get the letter. We left there and went to Japan embassy where my Fiancee told them what we needed and they took the request letter. She filled out some paperwork there and then they gave us the finger print card and we had to go to the National police station for fingerprinting. This will all be in the instructions that they will give you. Then you will return to Japan embassy with this information and all is good. It takes 45 days for the police clearance to arrive. They will call your Fiancee and tell her when it will be available for pickup. No need to have it translated as it will be in English and sealed. Do not open it as it is addressed to the U.S embassy. We started out doing this at 8am in the morning and finished with everything at 3:30pm. I hope this information helps you. It worked for me and others on VJ.

Forgot to add this. I would not advise making an interview appointment when you file for the Japan police clearance. They say it could take 45 to 60 days to get it. Usually 45 days though. You do not need to interview and not have the police clearance cause it will delay the visa until they get the information needed. I waited until around mid Dec 09 and made her appointment for the the end of Jan 2010. This gave ample time for the Police clearance to arrive. They called her end of Dec 09 and told her it would be ready for pickup on Jan 6th,2010.

Once I knew that I called the embassy and changed her interview for Jan 14th,2010.

Better for you to pay the $18 fee for the pin number and call to make the appointment. My fiancee had no luck getting through when she tried to call so I ended up doing it. Again, Hope all this helps you.

We want to schedule her interview for 6/18/10 so that should be enough time for the Japanese Police Clearance to come back if we request in 4/12/10.

Seems like I may just call on Tuesday.

Thanks

Hi my fiancee and I are also waiting on JP police clearance. I had to call the US embassy and request an interview before fiancee could get request letter for Japanese embassy. I understand you want to schedule your appointment for a later date. I did too. I found out that they only have a certain amounts of dates available, meaning they will only schedule appointments so far off. You may have to accept and earlier date (like me) so she can apply for JP cert. Then choose latest date possible. If time is running out you can reschedule. That is my plan if the JPC doesn't arrive on time.

Note: When I paid for the pin number to contact the embassy, it stated you get two calls for the one payment. You can use one to schedule the appointment and the next for reschedule if necessary.

Good Luck.

For what it's worth...any U.S. citizen can visit the U.S. Embassy.

PS....Some people reported getting more than three phone calls from their $18 PIN.
