Ok, I am new... and I have some questions... I received a letter yesterday from NVC saying that my fiance's case would be sent to Juarez. The question now is: How long do we have to wait for the interview? From what I read, some people say that the interview date can be set up over the phone. What's your advice? Do we have to wait for a letter or should I just call the consulate to set up an interview? How does it work after the Consulate receives the package? Thanks a lot.

You have to wait. In Ciudad Juarez you can no longer call to set up an appt. It usually takes 2-4 weeks to receive an appt letter. If longer than that, call NVC to find out if there is an issue with the case.

Yes you will have to wait. The consulate will mail packet 3 which is just an open appointment letter, which once confirmed this has been mailed out you are free to go for your interview anyday the consulate is open 8am-10am. Others have just gone and requested a copy of the open appointment letter at the consulate as we all know mail in Mexico at times can be unreilable, you will need the letter to go to the medical exam. As far has how long it will take for the consulate to send this letter it appears from other members experiences around 6-8 weeks. The NVC sent my package to the consulate March 19th but no updates as of yet. You can call the Dept of State #202-663-1225 for updates.

You should update your timeline for others to compare with yours

Well mine was a K3 visa, so it may be different, but they supposedly sent out packet 3 after about 5 weeks. I never got it so I had to fill out the forms online and fax them. They never received them. So finally through our Senator's office we emailed the DS230 that they requested and that day they assigned us an interview appointment for the end of April. Since yours is K1 then your packet 3 should already have an appointment notice I would assume. I would call the call center number that they have on the ciudad juarez consulate website after about 3-4 weeks to see if they have sent it yet, because the mail apparently isn't always that reliable.
