I'd planned on 25 and out at 57 but that's gone now. I'm still vested with 15 so I'll just wait till 62 then we're outta here!! Hopefully Central States and Uncle Sam will still be there for me. I'd still rather live on fish and rice THERE than catfood HERE

My wife and I have discussed this as a possibility. It depends most on our kids if we have any, and where they want to be, I guess. It also depends how much the economy advances or retreats here and there, as this would likely be years in the future. Let's face it, part of marrying someone from another country is having family in both. The Philippines is predicted by many to be one of the economies expected to grow by the largest percentages over the next 20 years, the U.S. appears to be in a long slow decline. Who knows what the future holds for either one 20 years from now?

We're both happy to just be together, wherever it might be. If we get sick of Wisconsin we can always move somewhere warmer later in life, US or Phils., or somewhere else entirely.

We don't plan to fully retire, we plan to own a small business for our retirement years to stay active, hire management if we get sick of it (or our health fails) but retain ownership and check in on things several times a week, and of course do our own accounting. In this way if we chose we could "retire" (from our full time day jobs) earlier as well.

It is quite easy to get citizenship there as a spouse of a citizen, and based on the small amount of research I've done it's not hard to maintain a dual citizenship U.S./ Phillipines for either spouse. We both plan on being dual citizens in the future, as well as our children if we have any. That would take care of the issues of owning property or a business. In the event of a death of one of us our children or spouse can take over ownership. In the event of divorce, well there isn't such a thing there. Annullment, yes, but it's expensive and a lengthy process. Dual citizenship would also give an easy path for moving if a war were to break out, or economy crashed, or some natural disaster or major climate change affected whichever country we were currently residing in.

I don't plan on buying property there until we've lived there for a while. Maybe land, but not a house and lot. Too hard to manage it from 8000 miles away. I can envision squatters moving in within weeks of your visit lol. I am considering the possibility of purchasing some bare land though purely as an investment.

Me and my wife talked about retiring to PI, but Hawaii is good enough. I see alot of people from colder parts of the Mainland seem to want to retire to PI. But for us the weather is better here in Hawaii. We also have a big Filipino community.

I was thinking of buying a Condo in Cebu then my fiance said that her "FAMILY" can move into it so that way someone can clean the place in our absence, I told her that we wouldnt need anyone to clean it if nobody was to live there since nobody would be creating a mess. Besides if her family were to move into it, they would get really comfortable and by the time I want to move in there im sure it would be hard to have them move out and also if i were to do that I am sure they would say something behind my back and be ungrateful for the years of me letting them live there for free. So I decided to forget it. Many times I wonder if they are being honest or if they are getting some of these excuses for Steven Speilberg and George Lucas, some of these stories her parents would tell me so I would send them money is totally out of this world and the story can be sold to Hollywood. I even asked her dad, how were they able to survive before I showed up into the scene ? I figured that once Rose is here they would be better off since its one less mouth to feed and one less person to consume everything in the house in general.

I can go on and on...........but i will stop now

Well I might consider but that will be years from now, I would need to hit the GOLDEN number with the TEAMSTERS first so I can retire.

Teamsters, eh? Me didn't reckon that casino janitors and dishwashers can join the union!

What are you talking about ? You don't make sense. If you are referring to casino janitors (aka housekeeping) and dishwashers, in some casinos they are part of the culinary union. If you are talking about the Teamsters I suggest you go on the Teamsters website and further educate yourself.

I could easily buy my grandmother's land in Bicutan, but I'd rather not live in an urban environment. I have fallen in love with Palawan, but would rather prefer the coolness that Baguio brings. I could also easily settle on beautiful Batanes, but it's a bit over isolated for me.

Yup, you enter a casino in Vegas, nearly everyone working there is represented - bellmen, waiters, cashiers, dealers. Union bashing while you're playing blackjack isn't a good idea
