Welcome to America, Lost!!

I believe that it takes 3 weeks to get your SS#. Did you go down to the SS office and ask or once you went through customs at your POE did they tell you that they will send you your card or you need to apply at the office?

You should beable to buy a fairly good car for $3000. Usually if you look for a sedan or smaller car you will save on gas. Look at the classifieds and see what is for sell and research it on the internet.

It sounds like you haven't gotten go to out and discover California at all. Once you get out and meet people, you won't be so lonely for friends. I know it's hard to move to a whole different country, I've done it a couple of times too.

I am planning to get my husband involved in the local mosque so that way he will meet new people and also try to get him involved in some local things in our community.

Maybe you can find a local middle eastern market and buy some food you are missing. I know food is different all over the world. You just keep on trying things until you find something you like.

As far as work goes, we are very much in a recession and jobs are scarce. Just feel lucky if you can find any kind of work and keep on reaching for your "dream" job!

Good luck and I hope things turn out better for you! :star:

Ahlan wa Sahlan, Welcome to the boring USA... I know why so many Egyptians chose to live in New York... it's just about the only city in the USA that comes close to the nightlife of Cairo....

You will find many arabs in Fresno, don't buy cars from them.... ;) For $3000 you should be able to get a nice old Honda or Toyota with great gas mileage and alot of life left in it... We got a 1988 Toyota Tercel with 105,000 miles on it for $750! Gets 38 miles per gallon and is more comfortable than the Lada in Egypt!!!

Good for you using the GPS!! You'll do fine! Hard to find work these days (don't count on any help from Egyptians....) but try to be friendly and out going... it helps...

Good luck!
