IN your effort to down play the alarming trend back home, this jewel of yours was my fav.

"very few of these violent crimes involve guns, and very few of these violent crimes involve someone being seriously injured or killed and very few of these violent crimes affect people in any but the poorest regions and communities."

Okay we get your point,....- these crimes happen to "those" people so relax.

haha, let the proles die!!

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Old deleted posts.

I am just waiting for slim to come here and excuse these stats because you can use a pen to stab someone..

It shouldn't be that hard for anyone to grasp. The restriction of guns has resulted in a massive decrease in the number of murders using firearms. It's the same story played out in every other first world country. Furthermore, the US super high homicide rate discredits the notion that guns make you safer, as they clearly don't.

The fallacy is that the availability of guns has anything to do with the rates of violent crime in the UK.

As I said, even prior to 1997, guns (especially handguns) were heavily restricted. You could own them if you were part of a shooting club, but you couldn't carry them on your person to go to the store.

The 1997 law didn't ban guns, it added further restrictions - automatic weapons have always been banned, but semi automatic handguns could now only be kept at a shooting club, not in your home.

So really the only way you could attribute these restrictions to rises in violent crime is if there was a massive epidemic of home invasion, but AFAIK this is not the case.

So really this story has nothing to do with the availability of guns, so The Shooter is putting forward a false premise that has been fed to him by hacks like Trent Lott.
