Never thought of that, but the rest of my American relatives would never go for it.

Now he's got me thinking about it too! "I swear I'm not just trying to save a buck baby!"

We, in the USA, could go about celebrating all 180 countries holidays. Why not? We could probably have a holiday everyday! And the florists would all become rich...not to mention the candy companies. And I'm sure we could find at least one couple where a spouse immigrated from one of the 180 countries...so celebrate. In Ecuador, people throw water filled balloons down on each other and call it a holiday. If you marry a woman from Ecuador, start filling those balloons...and heaven help your unsuspecting neighbors.

Let's embrace everyone's holidays. Come on. Never mind the country is a dictatorship or repressive. Be a sport and celebrate! You'll make someone happy.

The heritage of IWD is socialism. If that resonates with you, celebrate! You want to honor what many of our fathers and grandfathers fought against, go ahead. Celebrate.

Hooray for communist, socialist and feminist extremism! Karl Marx rules.

Herll yeah! I am all for it. I barely work part time as it is now....more holidays is a good thing! I think I will take the day off tomorrow to celebrate. In fact, I will take tomorrow AND Wednesday off to make up for not taking today off. Then I will go in late on Thursday and leave early to make up for it.

I have such a huge family we stopped intermural gift giving years ago. Our two grown sons are best served by sending money or "Lowe's" gift cards. Our two younger sons never celebrated Christmas much anyway, it is not such a big holiday in Ukraine, New Years is what it is all about. We send out the cards, of course, or go to my family's party (usually a couple weeks before Christmas) but that is all we do for the "US Christmas" Otherwise we clean up on the post Christmas sales!

Eh....I'm around....what else I got to do....it's either this or doing work...to which I say F that....

Yeah, the RUB members who haven't completed the journey and the ones who's wives have classes late and then go to get their hair cut.

Alla has a Russian woman that cuts her hair for her at her house. She works at a salon during the day, sidelines at home at night, mostly for Russian women clients. Her name is "Anya". I call her "Anya 1" Then there is "Anya 2" Anya 1 is 40-ish and very attractive, divorced. Anya 2 is 27-ish, tall, blonde, OMG beautiful! Anya 2's husband is 57. Anya 2's husband used to be Anya 1's husband! hehehehehe. Was it I that said "nothing happens in Vermont?" Maybe I should say "If anything happens here, it stays here, but everyone knows about it!" For most of her "numbered" friends, the number applied depends on which Anya, Olga, Svetlana, etc., I met first...um, in this case it is...you can guess. LOL Alla's best friend in Ukraine is also named Alla. (imagine that, and with so many Russian women's names to choose from) I call them "Alla squared" when they get together.

Alla, always the diplomat, is friends with both of them.

Wow. I feel so embarrassed for you VV. I guess nobody told you; Russia is no longer a communist country. Man, sorry you had to find out this way. I'm surprised you didn't know this. I thought everyone knew. Well, I guess someone has to be the last person.

Just a small FYI about what some people's grandfathers have fought for. I vaguely remember reading something about life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Basically that means freedom from having other people try to force us on how we should live our lives. And well, last I checked not one person here has told you to celebrate IWD, yet you have repeatedly tried to undermine our freedom to enjoy part of another culture. (Just a small history lesson: America was formed by multiple cultures). So while we don't care if you celebrate this holiday, you would like nothing better than to force everyone not to celebrate this or any other holiday you deem not American enough.

So if I do some quick math, looks to me like there's only one non American among us. And that would be you.

Nice photo Brad!

Thanks. Vika doesn't like it. She says it is a bad picture because you can't see all the flowers. Not really the point, but since it was IWD I chose not to disagree, and just took more pics instead.

I guess my question would be what does Anya 1 think of Anya 2, and do you have to hear about it? We try to stay out of the Russian Community and the gossip circuit, but it would be pretty hard for these two to do that  Last night at dinner we ran into the owner of the closest of our two Russian stores. He was there with his ex-wife (no shi1t) and daughter. Of course he wished Vika a happy IWD. After they left, Vika turns and says "#######, now every Russian in the city will know we can afford to eat here".

What restaraunt Brad? And Vika doesn't want them to know? We have the same with one couple, Olga 2 and her husband. They are fairly well off, not wealthy, and mostly because the man was never married before, never drained by an American ex-wife, they have a pretty nice house, certainly no mansion and not even very big. The other women think she (Olga 2) rubs their noses in it, but she nice to me. (which burns up Alla also) I'm told it is because I do not understand the nuances of interaction between Russian women. Guilty as charged...and do not want to learn!

Anya 1 and Anya 2 HATE each other! And YES, I hear about it. Anya 2 says Anya 1 is living in "her husband's" house, and tells Alla that she is no good as a hair dresser. Anya 1 (about the same age as Alla) says Anya 2 is a young strumpet that just lured away her husband by spreading (incredibly long) legs. (Russian women are SO direct it is funny) Anya 2 is easily a full 2 meters tall! No kidding. Anya 2 (actually the first of the two I met because she is in Alla's class at school) learned about Alla knowing Anya 1 when Alla recommended that she go to this "great Russian hair dresser she knows...and, hey, her name is Anya also!" Ooops. This was before Alla was driving even, so when I picked her up at school that day....OMG did she have the stories to tell.

Now Anya 2 and the husband come to our local Amer/Rus parties, so I actually see Anya 2 more than Anya 1. The husbands last name begins with "K" and I thought of calling them "Anya K-1" and "Anya K-2" (since Anya 2 is about the age of most K-2s  ) But thought that may be pushing it. All the women accept the numbers once they learned the number is not a ranking but just a way to keep them in order when Alla starts yakking, and it is "chronological" so to speak.

There is still a Russian Communist Party. In fact, they just made the news...they will be carrying posters of Stalin's picture in this year's Victory Parade. That was forbidden until Putin praised Stalin in a major speech recently.

I told Brad that if he authentically felt connected to IWD, to enjoy it. If he was just playing to his wife, he was just be pragmatic. Nothing noble in that. I guess you missed that.

I have not asked anyone to not celebrate IWD. Just put out my reply to an free and open forum. You know, Freedom of Speech.

I fought for America. How about you?

VV, you know there's a Communist Party in the US too, right? There's also a Nazi Party and a Teabagger Party and there's even a bunch of asholes who like to go out and protest military funerals. And oh yeah there's the thoroughly racist and disgusting "birthers" that the Governor of Alaska has sided with. What a horribly sh1tty and barbaric country we live in huh?

I too fought for all of them, and for people like you. And so did others here, so step down off the high horse, hero, you're not special. And because somebody didn't wear a uniform in the service of this country doesn't make them a second class citizen to you.

Nobody here ever *demanded* that you shut up. We asked you to respect our rights to celebrate this day, which you declined, even long after you had provided the "balance" that's so important to you. So next time you get all uptight about people talking about guns or pie or horse vaginas or whatever, I want you to please think back to this. You're just as disruptive as the next "swinging dik."

The Tea Party is a large and growing group, mostly older Americans and has political clout...as witnessed in Scott Brown's upset victory. I see you lump them in as extremists which shows your silly view of things. The US Communists and Nazis might have 500 members if they're lucky. Russia was ruled by the communists for 80 years. See any difference?

You're right. I'm nothing special serving my country. I do think when someone says I'm not an American, it's fair to note I served as a counter to that comment. I know context does not mean much to you, but it does to me.

And you really are a trip, acting like someone's hosting a IWD party and I'm a gate crasher. This is an open forum and anyone is free to comment. I've yet to hear the OP ask me to stop posting. Probably because he has some common sense and realism about this forum.

And, as far as agitating in someone else's thread...you're the king. You post here to play your silly game. I'd guess you could care less. This is how you get attention.

We need to learn 'em proper! Alla is teaching English classes now, VV, aren't you thrilled that now a former Komsomol student officer is teaching English in America? I'm damn proud of her. here 18 months and now she is teachin Americans to speak English! You go GIRL! Anyway, I had her flowers delivered to her class today and she used it as a teaching moment to learn her class proper about womens day! I am sure that makes you happy, VV. I try to do my part.

I've heard how Vermonters speak English...so I'm not surprised they'd turn to anyone for help. Only problem might be teaching weights and measures. Like LUBS (lbs).

You're Mox on steroids. Nothing here to respond to. Probably a personal attack. Let's wait and see.

You're coming to a community who appreciates women and is composed of members who at the very least find Russia/FSU to be interesting.

You can't seriously believe your hate speech about women and Russia/FSU is going to be welcomed here.

Everyone's primary goal in coming to this forum is to help others with their visa process. It's secondary to enjoy some common interests that we have in our lives. Maybe it helps some people pass the time.

And if you actually did provide any help with visa's then I'd probably let you slide. But you don't. In fact, your primary and only goal in coming here is to spread your hate rhetoric about the two subjects we have an interest in.

So simply labeling someone as "Aw, you're just another Mox" is a pathetic cop-out. As previously mentioned, everyone here has something in common with him, except you. We (excluding you in this "we") love our wives/husbands/fiance's; they're not some "reward for the fall of communism". We (again, not you) like to learn about where they are from to better understand who they are now.

I can't see how/why you think you deserve to be welcomed with opened arms on this forum. I'm not the first to pull your card and I won't be the last; so long as you come here to continue your personal crusade.
