Captain Sully retiring from US Airways

Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who piloted a US Airways flight during its emergency water landing on the Hudson River in January of last year, is retiring Wednesday.

Sullenberger, 59, joined US Airways' predecessor airline in 1980.

Flight attendant Doreen Welsh, who was also on Flight 1549 when it landed in the Hudson, is also retiring. Welsh, 59, joined US Airways' predecessor airline in 1970.

All 150 passengers survived the emergency river landing in January 2009 when the plane's engines were struck by birds.

A truly remarkable man.

In the Philippines, most flight attendants are young and quite good-looking. I once had a co-teacher whose best friend wanted to be a flight attendant. During her (the best friend) interview, she was asked to raise her skirt even higher. The interviewer spotted a tiny scar on her leg and told her she couldn't be accepted.

Well, that was what my ex co-teacher narrated as what she had heard from her friend.

Flight attendants here in the U.S. are not necessarily gorgeous and they have wrinkles. Still, they are efficient in their field.
