IR-1 Visa for wife - Questions and Updates

Hi Guys,

On Jan 4th, I have filed IR-1 ( immigrant visa ) for my wife in US Embassy, New Delhi, India. On Feb 9th, we received packet 3 from US Embassy, Mumbai, India. Initially, we have decided to relocate back to US on June 30th, 2010. Now, we have changed our plans to postpone this move until March 2011. My questions is :

I received 20 days back PACKET 3 kit from embassy. Is there any due date or cut off time for sending that kit ? Howlong I can hold it with us ?

If I send it out, they will setup an interview in 2months , they will issue immigrant visa on the interview date and we have to leave the country

within 6 months. Otherwise, the visa will become invalid and to extend the time of visa, I have to pay another $400+ ( Note : I have called embassy today, they said we can request for extension, but they will review all other documents ...PCC, Medical records ....they shouldn't be expired by that date...otherwise I have to get fresh ones again ). Is it ok if I keep this kit for sometime (i.e 5 months on hold ) and then send it after 5 months ?

In this way, I can hold our case for 7 months in total ( 5 months gap + 2 months time to get the interview date etc., ).

Just want to know howmany months we can keep packet 3 with us ?

Another option is : Sent the signed PACKET 3 kit and request in the cover letter for interview in the month of OCT 2010. Is it possible ?

Please advice or provide your suggestions.
